I 100% agree with you OP. As someone who remembers the good old days of Everquest, there was this thing the players liked the refer to as etiquette.

You treated each other with respect, trolling was non-existent, and any obscene behavior would result in you being alienated by the server rapidly.

Unfortunately, the education system in America has gone downhill rather quickly in the past decade and the kids coming up in their teens and even the young twenty somethings have no respect, no culture, and no moral standards.

It's not just TERA though, it's every MMO, especially the transient group of players that flock to the new game, trash it, and go back to the hole they crawled out of. In general, gamers have rather poor social skills, especially the MMO crowd.

There's a reason I call the chatbox the "idiot box" and I almost always turn it off. Just remember, these people are scum, and they will reap in life what they sow. Don't give them the attention that they so desperately crave and eventually they go away.

They are usually so flawed mentally that they don't get past lvl 30 in most games I play anyways. I highly recommend getting out of the low level zones asap and looking for other mature gamers such as yourself to team up with, to escape the human scum that is the internet generation.

I know not all of you young ladies and gentlemen are part of the problem, but the percentage of human scum versus respectful gamers has drastically shifted in the past decade. It's very sad indeed, it is even sadder that it is purely a reflection of the world itself as well.

Rise above, be civilized, treat each other with respect, and ignore those who don't do the same.

That's because in the days of EQ you had to group to level up with any speed at all. Soloing was only for a few classes and was usually painfully slow compared to most groups. If you were an idiot in chat, you didn't get groups very easily. Seems the less reliance on groups the past few MMOs that come out you get a lot of idiots who just don't care. They just queue up a dungeon and get put in a group anyways when they need it.

Really? Look, it's the internet. People will say what they want, when they want. Nothing you do can change that.

Really? Is that anything like "she was asking for it?" That is just an excuse to be an [filtered], but whatever.

At OP ..i agree with what you say in terms of how bad chat has gotten, however, you come across waaaay to soft and squishy inside. You need to toughen up lad, the world is hell, get used to it.

What/who is Evil is a point of view, mainly bassed on social norms and values, those who have grown up playing virtual games are generaly able to think outside said norms and values.
I for one started gaming at the age of 5'ish. Im 25 now, i ignore social norma and values. .i think for myself. That does not mean i go on chat channels and start talking trash, however what you may think is right or wrong will probably not match with my point of views.

If people decide they want to say hitler was 'good', take it with a grain of salt.. thats there opinion, they aint wrong, and if you say he was evil ..ur not wrong ..again its opinion. Right/wrong, Good/Evil ..its all opinion.

As for religion, well logic only comes to one conclusion: Religion causes nothing but trouble. (take a look at history). so my advice ..just ignore any discussions that starts talking about religion. it wil lonly end in a huge argument :P

in the end i think OP just needs to toughen up lol

Pre 90s.. holy, I am old.. anyway, I am not on a PvP server but yes, we too had some of the trolling going on. Some is funny, some is 'holy what?' but all are just words from fictional characters, even if they would be directed to me. No one knows me personally and I don't know anyone out there personally. Let's face it, most things said out there (chat) would not be said in person (unless they are drunk).
So I read, laugh most of the time and 'shrug' at some comments. If I would take even some comments to heart, I would not enjoy the reason I come here.. to play the game. Like some where saying before me, a lot of these comments are there to troll, to get a rise out of someone, to see what they comment back. It's like the kid that gets bugged in school. If they react, you do it again because it is 'funny' to see ppl either get upset or, in this case post some comments back..
On a side note, really enjoyed the start yesterday.. played 3 betas before, hated to start level 1 again with no horse and found it a bit weird in the beginning (blue) prologue thing, but was kinda cool...

Been playing on Arachnaea and the community there has been really helpful and generaly good natured.

I would never play on a pvp server after WoW since the demographic just seems to be those who relish preying on others, both physically and psychologically. Either due to issues they have in real life or because they get off on that kind of behaviour.

I have been playing MMORPGs for the past 13 years, and over the years, the level of degradation of the chat channels has been steadily increasing. It seems like the more people believe they are not responsible for their actions (or words as it would seem in this case), the worse they become.

Last night on the Valley of Titans server, I believe the human race hit an all time new low. From the second I logged in to the server until the second I logged out (5 hours later, thank you En Masse for bringing Tera to the west), the chat was flying by at a lightning pace.

For every game related question or comment, there were on average ten insulting, degrading, racist, sickening comments.

All night long, it was just one rude insulting statement after another, and it wasn't just one or two people doing it. Sadly, it was a BUNCH of people being as rude and insulting as humanly possible. This was like Barrens Chat on steroids.

People talked about how religion was a joke, and insulted every religion imaginable. They professed about how awesome every evil dictator in history was including Hitler. Racist remarks and comments were flying like crazy the whole night. It was just truly sad.

Is this what the human race has become? Are we really this pathetic that when we are anonymous, we become the most vile scum on Earth?

I came close to just logging out after a few hours of non-stop hate spam, but then I thought no... En Masse does not deserve to lose me as a customer just because the players of their game are horrible people.

I wish there was a server where your statements could get you banned from that server. I would pay MORE to be on it.

Make a list of names. Mine has started on Basilik Craig. When the dust settles from this OBT / Early start, I will be part of a group that kills, and griefs these people on sight.

Need further proof why people associate WoW players with a bad community? I spent 3 hours in Isle of Dawn last night listenting to NOTHING BUT WoW chat. I wanted to puke.

What's beautiful about this game? We have to power to change it. These WoW kiiddies, or Fanbois - will not enjoy being corpse camped. They will not enjoy the fact that every time they step out into open PvP lands, that they are going to be griefed - based on their immature social actions. They have never played a game that allowed OWPvP amongst people that share the same General Chat channels.

"See this knife? I'm going to teach you to speak English with this knife, you Irish bug!" - The Butcher, The Gangs of New York.

We can all teach these social misfits how to act civilly in an MMORPG - by force.

I just blocked anyone who said annoying words in the public channel. You don't have to hear those dirty words, but you can't kick them out of the chatting channel, either.
