Instance Matching Roles

My wife and I have been playing for OB and yesterday we did our first instance through the matching system. She is playing a Priest and I have been playing a Warrior. I have always played tanks in other games, and like the feel of the dodge in this game. She is typically heals and has been willing to put up with me learning to dodge/move around mob attacks. I have been using/holding on to gear that has tanking properties.

To make things a little shorter, I have wanted and been prepared to tank (including bringing my own healer) and keep getting matched with lancers. I understand that lancers are tanks period, and I have not wanted to be a jerk about something that isn't their fault, so I just switch to the dps stance and go with it, although I made one mad because I kept pulling off him because he constantly just did some aoe move, and for the rest of the time just blocked (I honestly wasn't trying to pull aggro).

Is there a way to set roles? I would like to know if I am doomed to create my own parties, also my wife was curious in case we ran into a party with another priest or mystic.

*On a side note, I am in love with this game, and I can't wait until launch. Ty all in advance, and sorry if this is a repost, but I've been searching and found not much.

Warriors are unable to queue as tanks in the dungeon finder. The only way to roll as a tank for an instance group is to skip the finder and find a group manually.

By launch, the public is expecting the instance matching system to be tweeked by En Masse and Bluehole studio. The current system is satisfactory by mild standards. The instance lockout feature is easily exploitable and can be used to grief TERA players. It is always very inconvenient for a game that does not explain the instance lockout system.

Expecting players to learn by trial and error when the NA TERA website has information on other medial topics is a bit contradictory. Especially when promoting an MMORPG is done mostly through how the website presents the product.

The roles and the loot options need to be more user friendly because if not, what's the point in even giving players an option to choose? The stat window on the character panel doesn't even explain what each stat does. You might as well look at a schematic for rocket fuel and start making it with household items. The same goes for the loot system setup. Uncommon, rare, superior could at least be color-coded to help newbies learn how to setup a party loot system accurately. The instance matching is already being exploited by players who lead and set loot to allow class-based items to be rolled by those who aren't that class (even when that class is present).

WoW, for example, which will always be a standard, forces loot to be rolled only by classes that are suited to use it. Even that is very discriminating but it is a basis as to which En Masse and Bluehole Studios can potentially learn from.

That seems to be a let down for those of us that have the ability and the want to tank as Warriors. Hopefully this system will be an addressed issue. Thank you both for the quick reply.

Each class has their role. Expecting to be a tank when you're meant to be DPS is stepping into the grounds of another class. A Mystic and Priest can't expect to fulfill a DPS role even though their spells are suited for a similar task.

You miss the part under class descriptions, where it classifies warrior as an evasive tank, and a challenging option to tanking. Yet doesn't let you instance as a tank........ So much inconsistency. XD

Evasion tanking isn't the same as being a meat shield like a Lancer. Again, expecting to be a role that your class isn't is stepping into the territory of another class.

While i acnkowledge its not the same, it serves the same purpose, you take aggro, you make sure nobody else takes damage. if your standing there going 'BLOCK!', or doing barrel rolls every few seconds. As long as your alive, and nobody else is getting dead. Congrats, you fufilled the role of tanking, and enmasse's site accepts warriors can do that. Heck, evasion tanking is technically better, less need for heals.

VoidDragoon is exactly correct about Warrior tanks. I have watched many videos and read plenty of write ups about Warriors in the tanking role. We are an evasion tank not traditional meat shield, many of our moves are 'high threat', and 'reduces dmg by % while using this move'. Thus the purpose of my OP. I understand this class, along with its 'difficulty'. I am not trying to step into territory that is not my own. I even have gear with defensive properties, and are Warrior spec, useless to the other light armor classes.

Yeah. color coding the loot would be nice, even just for ascetic purposes. Seems like en Mass didn't look very closely at the details of the game. Hopefully, they will be correcting these errors soon out of beta.
