World of Warcraft kind of killed the MMO Market......

WoW didn't kill anything. I remember the MMO market before WoW. WoW did more to popularize the MMO genre than any other game.

That's like saying the IBM killed the personal computer market. IBM made PCs accessible to computer users. IBM never made the *best* personal computers, but they brought them to the masses. The IBM design was flexible and affordable. If it hadn't been IBM, it would have been some other company eventually, but it was IBM. No other company, at the time, could have done what IBM did.

Somebody obviously is to young to have enjoyed EQ, AC, UO, DAoC, Planetside or hundred of other MMO's that were amazing before WoW. All WoW did to the market was standardize its cookie cutter filth, and paint people who play MMO's as neanderthals who lack social skills.

You are correct on one point...It did bring alot more people to the genre, regrettably with that popularity also came the hordes of idiots. I grew up with MMO's, and EQ, AC, and DAoC are all better games with better systems and were incredibly popular.

By the logic you use, EQ would be IBM not WoW....You need more training young one, your MMORPG Timeline is out of whack.

I re wrote it for you:

I mean, I am excited to go out with her. But I feel like I've been through this so many times.

Excited when I meet a girl, do the pre [filtered] and closed legs waltz. And during this you get really excited. The girl is new and it has things Wow could only DREAM about. And of course you compare everything to Wow. It is the one girl to whom we compare everything else. She is behemoth that WILL NOT DIE. And is infested with smacktards like a behemoth with simultaneous crabs and herpes.. (You just try and get that mental picture out of your head.)

Then we reach the early start crescendo... quick! Pull out!

Then we crash. We always do. 200,000 sweaty, unwashed nerds of the net trying to muscle into half a dozen wrecks. We ALWAYS crash.

Then after about an hour, maybe two we whip that testosterone into a frenzy and get the girl back up. Yay.

Those first few weeks are the best and the worst. House camping those essential home entrances, rage skyrocketing in front of her house. (WTS Soul for blow job!) Girls who don't care about who they trample over to play. The hot girls you meet and get into relationships with. (And the nice friend-only drama you engage in.)

Then after a bit you get that first niggling doubt. "Hmmm, this girl isn't as good as I thought... what am I thinking?! Of course she is, shut up!"

That second encounter that feels just so unpolished and boring, "No, I'm sure everything will get better later."

That full day you spend dead and raging as you get spanked so hard there are shoeprints on your bum. And maybe you start thinking, "Maybe... just maybe this girl is not what I wanted."

I'm sure everyone has experienced this in one way or another. Everyone has had their heart broken by that one girl that upon closer inspection was a pile of donkey manure. (Mine was Miley Cyrus... bad, yes, I know.)

I've experienced that so much I'm more wary about new girls than excited. I want to play. I want to LOVE this girl. But I don't want to be disappointed any more.

Does anyone else feel like this? Am I being to pessimistic?

Well, we're optimistic enough to have spent the money on the game. That's good enough for me! If it keeps me busy for at least a month, its money well spent.

But yeah, that feeling one got when rezzing in Elwynn Forest or Teldrassil for the first time? Probably not going to happen again. But I don't expect that of any game.

One way to fix the "hype" is to not expect too much out of it. Games not only fail because of community, but the company backing them.

EA turned Bioware into an unhelpful heep of doo.

Enmasse is pretty amazing & so is BHS. It doesnt feel like a Wowline, or a pretty package of failure (AION/RIFT/SWTOR). NCSoft has one chance to compete with TERA, BLADE & SOUL. The art styles are visually similiar... so I bet thats why theyre worried.

The PVP Servers seem to be dramafests so far even before the server launches (like wtf?) but PVE, like SI & DF you can see the unity within the community quite clearly & Im sure itll be there in RP server as well (Havent looked in CH)

Warhammer = WoW renamed

I would not call WAR "WoW renamed". WAR had a lot of different features from World of Warcraft, Out of all the games you listed below, WAR was the one most unlike WoW.

World of Warcraft kind of killed the MMO Market......I don't mean it in the way of "WoW was so great nothing could survive against its mighty stranglehold!"...more like because the game was so successful every single MMO Since has mirrored WoW in almost every way that its sickening...
SWTOR = Star Wars Themed WoW with voice acting and worse graphics....
Rift = WoW With a twist on raids
Warhammer = WoW renamed
LoTRO = Lord of the Rings themed WoW

It's becoming more apparent to everyone that we all needed a more extravagant change to the MMO's and Tera appears to be delivering just that.

Is it normal to be pessimistic? Looking at the past releases since WoW corrupted the market with its filth, I'd say its very normal and well warranted to be somewhat wary of new MMO's.

"Corrupted the market with it's filth"? I would like to point out that the "tab-target" model has long been a staple in MMOs, and has been around since a little game called Everquest was released. Everquest also gave us dungeons and raids.

And for the record, World of Warcraft has been the best MMO on the market from 2004 through 2011, period. If you don't believe me, check Metacritic or GameRankings. It's basically blown away every other MMO since it was released.

Still, I agree, it's time for a change.

"you will never experience new great things if you don't try it out."

How absolutely, and fundamentally true. It can't be put any better then that.

I, for one, am still excited about this game. And yes, I was around during the UO/EQ days before WoW came out. What really makes me excited about this game is the fact that they are buidling on things that are successful and adding their own novel twist to the game: the action combat system, which, IMHO, is a pretty nice innovation for a P2P game.

Some of the innovations of other games, like FFXIV, were were pretty nice... the ability to change "jobs" by simply changing weapons was a great idea, but the way they intiatially implemented it was terrible.

Rift, I think, of all of the current offerings "got things right". It's a very fun game, and there's no reason why it shouldn't be successful. The one feature of that game that I really like is the ability to join rift groups on-the-fly. It's really nice to run into a rift with a couple of people in there, automatically join the group and enjoy the encounter. From what I'm reading in the patch, this game has a similar play on that same idea -- which really excites me.

And the action combat system in this game reminds me a LOT of another game: Dragon Nest, but that's definitely NOT a bad thing. What I think really excites me is the fact EME and BlueHole have put together successful elements from other MMO's in a coherent, well thought out and FUN way.

Nothing in this game, that I can see so far, is going to kill the sense of progression you're going to get from leveling from 1 to 60. And it looks to me like once you DO reach the level cap, there's plenty of stuff already in place for us to enjoy once we get there.

And that, my friends, is why I'm excited about this game, and can't wait to play.
