Is RNG really this horrific? Or is it a marketing strategy?

People complain too much. If it had higher success, then there weren't be much to aim for and makes things too easy.

Or, you know, they can make make enchanting extremely expensive, except it works every time. (ie. make it work 100% of the time, but the cost would be equal to using 50 or so scrolls for each level). Still tons of grind, but at least you know you're working towards something, instead of a maybe.

But alas, this is a korean grind model, so western logic doesn't seem to have a place in these games.

The reason RNG is used is because they can alter the success rates as they want and it's almost impossible to prove it was changed or not.

Semi-RNG is blind. For MW it's just about 3%. You could hit it after 5 attempts or after 150. Depending on the player's affluence in gold and the present in game availability of MW scrolls chances of patients rage-quitting or disconnecting themselves from the game historically tend to rise past 150. Now that the game is F2P the stakes for the company are not as high as they'll be a greater degree of acceptable churn that there was as strict P2P.

In the past MW scrolls were only available by doing dungeons. Now they are also available via store - this SHOULD make it more available in the broker and thus cheaper than it was in the past. Sadly, that's not the case, they're now 3 times their previous F2P price, but that's likely the result of generalized inflation. It's likely that if they were ONLY available via in-game means that their price would be even higher.

I just think these Asian game's obsessions with Casino progression are way out of hand and a crappy thing to import.

Well if I worked for Enmasse and I wanted to sell spellbinds I would make a few ingame accounts, buy up most of the MW scrolls and resell for double. This way you can alter the normal selling price very easily from just a couple of weeks reselling and due to increased cost of attempts push up spellbind sales.

Seen devs do this on other mmos, not saying they are doing it here ofc.

EVE is an entirely different society altogether. They could be aliens from Zebulon as far as TERA is concerned. There are many things in our game worthy of a tinfoil hat but I don't feel we're quite to EVE levels yet.
