It is looking bad for Australian players

The amount of butthurt in this thread is phenomenal. I tried reading all 12 pages, and now, I am really confused as to who actually supports this REQUEST for a west coast server. If anyone from EME actually reads this, I can't imagine they are going to take the petition seriously considering the level of maturity displayed by certain participants in this thread,

It is better looking AT it than FOR it, If EME knows that there are some players that want a west coast server, perhaps that will encourage them to look into it. There is no hard in trying. I am an Aussie player and have signed the petition. We can at least make them aware of our desires.

Wow you tried to read it all? Haha terrible choice. It is pages of me laughing at our local imbecile children ( which by rules of internet makes me not much better if any sadly ), only good thing is it was some guaranteed free bumps soon as I left to do stuff :)

Thread is in process of being purged which should clean up the obvious, Thanks for signing which brings this thread back on track.

I mean really, what do you expect? I am Australian and I would love to have a localised server, but it is probably not going to happen.

They are targeting the NA audience.

While it would be ideal for us to have a west coast server, I don't see it happening any time soon. I have participated in 3 of the closed beta tests with around 200 ping, and I have been able to play and enjoy the game. I have participated in both PVE and PVP with no issues.

If you are honestly that unhappy about the lag (which, as has been pointed out numerous times throughout the thread: Australians have had to deal with for the past 10+ years of gaming) it really just comes down to a simple answer: don't play this game. which has been targeted for a North American release only, and find a game which is more suited to your expectations. If anything, be thankful that we haven't had our IPs blocked like some of South East Asia.

I am sorry that connecting from Australia sucks for some of you guys, but the reality is that our focus is on the North American market for the initial launch of TERA. We made the decision early on not to sell boxes officially in Australia because we didn't want to promise something we couldn't guarantee. I went through this on a previous product and it felt wrong promoting and selling to a region we weren't completely supporting.

When you are starting a new company you need to have focus or you will end up getting spread way to thin.

My hope is that TERA's success takes off in North America and that over the next few years we can look into launching TERA locally, and fully supported into more territories.
Hi Knoxxer,

Have you thought about having some servers moved to CA or Washington? I have guildmates that are from Australia and they ping fine to west coast servers, but are having a lot of latency issue with the Chicago servers.

I've seen videos of their lag and it's literally a freezing / skipping lag every few seconds. (not playable at all) However, when they played other MMO and FPS games with servers located on the west coast, it is a lot more bearable and the lag is minimal.
There is a lot of cost and complexity to having servers in different locations. I have done it both ways and having a single centralized server location solves a ton of problems. We have put a ton of effort into optimizing our traffic - it has taken 2 years to get our data center where it is today.

I won't say that it will never happen but right now we are in Chicago for the foreseeable future.
Also please keep things civil and respectful even when people have different opinions/ideas. Here is a reminder of the official TERA forum rules.

What connections are all you guys on?

I don't find it unplayable or unresponsive at all and I am not even in a main city. My connection goes Sunshine Coast > Brisbane loosing a good 40-50ms before it even leaves the coast to hit chicago and I am yet to have a single playability issue with the latency I get (I can't tell as my network manager won't show TERA's ping).

If someone can provide me the server IP I can ping it when home both without and with Lowerping on. LP does nothing for me though it seems but is supporting TERA and has made a hell of a difference to a few players, suggest giving it a try in CBT5 as they have trial accounts.

EME's servers do not reply to pings. But you can do

tracert 208.67.49.148

It won't show the final hop because EME's server won't reply to that too. But you can use the latency to the final router as a really, really close approximation (that for all practical purposes is the same).

My latency varies between 18-22ms. That's from some place pretty close to Illinois.

Well i just went to the other server and Knoxxer made it very clear. I'm not sure how to quote from other threads so here's copy paste.

QUOTING!

So they've made it very clear that Australia is not a sales target and will not be catered for, which is understanding.

Hence I'll vote with my wallet and spread the news to fellow Australians (It is up to them but at least they'll be aware and can decide to do the same and vote with wallet). Starting with the whirlpool forums...

TBH, I think with lack of much advertising for TERA in NA, they'll get fair portion of their first stream of income from Oceania region, which they sadly admitted that they'll be neglecting.

Nice move from the devs to word it like that by the way.

Box sales for MMO in Oceania have been pretty bad I assume. Most of MMO players nowadays prefer to pre-load electronically purchased copy anyway. I highly doubt that the decision early on not to sell boxes officially in Australia was because they didn't want to promise something they couldn't guarantee. Even with significant advertising, boxed sales would have been pretty much sub-par to electronic copy sales from Oceania region.

Unfortunately for us, all MMO devs see Australia has free initial sales and subs that they do not need to cater to because we're not their 'target audience'.
