Joystick & keyboard

Hey I wanted to use a joystick and a keyboard to play tera instead of a mouse & keyboard but tera doesnt support joysticks.... so i wanted to see if we could get that changed

the reasons i want to use a joystick
-dont have to pick up the mouse over and over
-my joystick has 12 rebind-able things useable by the single hand instead of my mouses 3
-flight sims also fix the crosshair to the middle of the screen so a joystick will feel more organic to tera
-will allow for the maximum toon and cross hair movement as you are hitting skills (you dont need to bring your fingers as far off the "w a s d" keys to hit your skills since more are on the joystick)
-cross hair precision, as you move a joystick further to one side it would move the cross hair faster and faster in that direction giving you a more controlled cross hair

in addition joysticks (or at least mine the $30 logitech basic joystick) can rebind all the functions they have on them to anything but a mouse so it wouldnt be hard for you guys to implement as all that would need to be changed is accept the movement of a joystick as cross hair movement

anyone else think this is a good idea?

PS sry if this is in a bad spot i didnt know what section this should go in

Obligatory: I got a joystick for ya.

ANYWAYS.... Thats not actaully a bad idea, but I think that would require a whole new API to be developed. I don't think EnMasse plans on doing something so involved for just a handful of customers. You may want to look around for a stand alone program that would allow you to treat your joystick as mouse/keyboard combo and allow you bind keys to it.

I can't say if it's a good or bad idea. I suppose there is no real harm in them implementing it.

I only ask what you mean by pick up the mouse over and over? I don't think I've ever had to pick my mouse up.

Also I doubt many players of Tera will a have joystick, let a lone one with 12 buttons. I agree with Thunder, you may want to look for a program to trick the PC into thinking it's a mouse.

@ thunderjunk they already have the coding for the cross hair to work off the joystick on an xbox controller so how is it that hard to adapt that to a real joystick.... i did try additional software that converts joysticks to mouse movement but they are not responsive enough... usually about a 1-2 sek delay from movement of the joystick to movement of the mouse

@ badgerlord i need to pick up my mouse over and over again mostly when i use my sorc, sorcs have a jump forward as well as a jump back and when u jump forward you need to spin the camera 180 degrees to hit the mob u jumped over and to do that i need to pick up my mouse and move it back to the other side of the mouse pad to continue the turn

Get a trackball and never pick up the mouse again?

Tera doesn't have proper analog support, and joysticks are inferior to mouses for aiming anyway.

Get a Naga.

@monvert i hate those things, trackballs suck (except when they are used for that old arcade bowling game)

+ a joystick has other advantages that an xbox controller trackball and a reg mouse dont have

Get a Razer Naga. 12 buttons by your thumb that can be set to use the numpad. Then you can use mod buttons like shift, alt and ctrl to give yourself a total of 48 binds at the tip of your thumb, without ever taking your hand off the mouse.

or, you know...you could demand the game change so you can use a joystick. o.O

@ shealee no need to be an jerk about it.... and i didnt demand anything.... a razer naga is expensive and i already have a joystick sitting around

on top of that even with the same number of buttons a joystick would have other advantages
