Just remove the entire vanarchy system.

Title says it all. For 3 months now across the servers there are been constant forgotten areas that never had a vanarch, areas with -blank- guilds like Zeal just screwing over the rest of the populace, and areas that had a vanarch guild that fell apart and left the area to rot. Just removed the entire failed system, set all the taxes and shops to default and be done with this bull.

Players and guilds that want to run events can do them anyway, and guilds that only wanted it to epeen or be complete arses shouldnt have the ability.

Flame me all you want, still cant deny its a fail at the core. PVP/GVG only areas on a PvE server? Why? Players went there because they didnt want pvp. Who thought it a good idea to let players have the power to open or close trainers? Lets just close down all the trainers from Island of Dawn through Cressentia. See how many new players keep playing when they have to go all the way to Velika every 30 minutes to train. That 3 minute flight gets old fast.

Personally....

I don't think it needs to be removed, just revamped. It needs better safegards and it needs restrictions removed.

The biggest problem is that vanarchs control sub systems of the game that NO PLAYER should have control over like trainers and the broker.

Instead vanarch perks need to be actual perks not [filtered] that's already there and an integral part of the game. Things that are helpful to players if the vanarch chooses to open them, but not a necessity. Things like actual special vendors not just almost the same [filtered] you can buy from other merchants, province wide buffs, again EXTRAS not necessary systems.

Also make vanarchs guild work for the perks (+more perks than just a freakin mount) they get that'll give them some incentive to stay active.

I'd also go for a method so people in a province could rebell against vanarchs in power either through an extension of the GvG system or some other means. Give players a way to kick bad vanarchs out of power.

The biggest problem is this system was toted as one of this game's main features and it's decidedly one-dimensional. there simply needs to be more to it and more thought needed to be put into it as well. Tremendous lack of foresight on BlueHole's behalf.

GvG for vanarch is fail. On Arachnaea, Southern Shara has three provinces without vanarchs, including one elected province.

With battlegrounds, top guilds could have put their top players against each other, but PvE-server guilds who like to GvG now and then for the hell of it won't necessarily want to GvG for a full week just for the privilege of having to maintain trainers.

I doubt they're ever going to improve it so yeah I agree it should just be removed.

Revamp it for PvE servers. Keep it for PVP servers. It's a player driven economy, be fiscal in game as you would in person if you where broke.

The system needs work. It is not "fail at the core". As I've mentioned elsewhere it needs to be better incentivized, not removed completely just because it's not perfect out of the gate.

Also, the system requires player involvement. Despite the lack of incentives contributing to the lack of participation (which is not a mountain of a problem), a failure to participate is fundamentally the fault of the player base, not the system. The system isn't out to screw you. If nobody cares, nothing gets done. Working as intended there.

Rocdog makes the good point again, as it regards PvP won vanarchies, that you're just running/fighting for the privilege of a chore. Again, the core of the issue is a failure to properly incentivize. The "skeleton" of the system is there, just needs more work.

That said the increasing amount of unattended regions because of this issue is frustrating for many. I might suggest that services are available in unattended regions for double the price. As a longer term idea you might even hold the profits from that region's 200% mark up for the entire time it is unattended in trust until someone takes that area over, the sum to be paid out to the guild after their vanarchy term based on how well they managed vendor up time as a reward for taking it on. Something that doesn't leave people with zero options but a reminder that taking on vanarchy is an important (and rewarding) service to the community on the server. Of course none of this works if the fundamental issue of a lack of incentives is never addressed. Should go without saying that apathy will win out if the status quo prevails.

I should only add that the incentives need to be based on producing deliverables. You shouldn't be rewarded for doing a crap job (or no job at all).

Like with so many areas of TERA, it's one of those things that needs to be improved greatly or just completely revamped.

EME does not do improving or revamping. They showed that with pets, boxes of mischief and eggs. They only do removing.

As of right now I don't even get involved in the political system. I see a bunch of guilds and people who I don't know and have no reason to trust that they won't abuse the system wanting to be elected and then a bunch of closed trainers and unnecessary trips to major cities.

Honestly the system has only created obstacles for me the moment it was implemented.

I'll agree that yes, something needs to be done. They need to remove control over basic neccesities like trainers (our means of learning skills....seriously, why?) out of vanarchy control entirely.

It needs to centered around specialized shops and helpful incentives as per others suggestions. A helpful privilege not constricting the communities play just for someones amusment.

So far, I am finding that I don't like the political system at all. On paper it sounds exciting, but its current implementation is rife with glaring issues that need to be addressed. Its a stain on my play experience in Tera as it stands now.
