K-TERA down to 4 servers & 1 F2P server

It isn't a surprise to anyone to hear that TERA is struggling in its home country, however this news comes as a bit of a surprise to me. K-TERA is closing down a vast majority of their servers, down to only 4, and is including what they are calling a trial free to play server. This is all coming with the newest Queen of the Argons patch that should be released sometime later this summer.

I post this because if the game struggles in Korea, there is a very good chance that our version of the game will be affected directly afterward. With how poorly the game is doing in EU, thanks to our friends @ Frogster, it is safe to say that TERA is a collective failure at this stage.

Will we be seeing server merges and a potential f2p model soon? I would venture to say that it is certainly within the realm of possibility at this point.

Diablo 3 + Blade and Soul Open Beta are hitting TERA extremely hard, as the hype dies down for both I don't know where TERA will stand, but right now those two are beating the crap out of TERA. Blade and Soul is on pace to break TERA and Aions records for most players in OBT.

July 4th the QoA part 2 will officially launch in Korea and we can see what is being added to the game, the official QoA part 2 website is launching June 28th.

From what I know the 4 servers will have increased capacity, so they should be able to hold more players, that being said, I know the game obviously still isn't doing well.

F2P might actually help in Korea as F2P is the most widely accepted system in Korea, there's no subscription games that do very well, the only one ever to do exceptionally well in Korea seems to be Aion.

The max level on the f2p server is only level 50.

On a side note, I hope it doesn't go F2P here anytime soon.

At this time we have no plans to merge servers or change business models in the near future.

Right now I enjoy the game. Having a million subs would make it more successfull for sure but it currently does not affect me.

That's good to hear and I'm sure EME doesn't support such actions. However we all know that BHS makes all the final decisions regardless of what the NA/EU publishers may feel about them.

F2P may save the game for a small window of time, and has even saved games from a slow death (Lord of the Rings is a nice example) but for a new game like TERA it will only expose itself further to all the trolls who seemingly want the game to die.

KTera =/= NATera.

That being said, I think we should wait and see before we make any assumptions. Nobody on this forum besides the staff of EME can tell any form of truth as to which direction this game is going.

Not trying to be mean Batgirl, but you guys dont seem to have plans for much, at least in public....

What about Ktera and Eurotrashtera? Why the F2P, and why the down sizing? As the OP said, this WILL have a direct effect on our playing eventually.Poeple will see whats going on with those world areas, and will expect the same exact thing to happen here. You may not have plans for it now, but you guys are also a good time frame behind them yes? So, are you guys following the same model now? What are we to expect in the next 6 months, the same fate as your overseas servers? You can say its a different company/market all you want, but at the end of the day it will take its toll on these servers as well, even if its just due to forum PR.

well guys i have positive view of Tera future.

The new adds, like arena for GvG and Deathmatchs , Vanarch wars and battlegrounds, are contents that we just cant ignore. I just cant compare it with D3 that isnt even a mmo or with anyother mmo that dont even exist ( GW2 isnt a game to compare with Tera sry).

i had 10 friends playng D3, and now all of em just left this game to play Tera, so i think its just a matter of time to ppl realize that D3 is just a d2 with better graphics and that D3 dont offer nothing real new , in pvp terms( same f1 f2 f3 spam and mass clicks like d2).

Blade and Soul open beta for me is the real problem,( Koreans love Blade and Soul Asian art) and Tera will need to add their good adds asap so keep they alive there. I rly love Tera and i trust in his potential. I will test Blade and Soul but until it be playable here in america ( more1-2 years) Tera will have evolved a lot.

I heared that Blade and Soul pvp dont rly works exacly like the videos show , so nothing is rly sure.

And if Korea fail , it dont rly have any effect here. Blade and Soul is just a Asian Mmorpg, like Tiger and Dragon movie, that u can fly like [filtered]es and have China robes and itens. Well Koreas love this [filtered]. To make me move to Blade and Soul pvp combat must be better than Tera and i doubt that its possible from w i saw on videos.

diablo 3 is basically bending over every mmo and making them take a staff of herding to the rear
