The Korea Tera rift system is out. and its laggy as hell. I was at an average of under 10 fps the entire time due to the zerg (usually 3-10, 6-10 without fraps and 3-7 with it) as opposed to the 40-50 I normally get. I did not(!) lower my settings, i wanted to see how it ran as is the entire way through. My guild members also got very low FPS. It was mostly the large amount of people that caused the lag, not the system itself. However, the bosses require a large amount of people to kill so its kind of the nature of it.
Due to the zerg its best to be a ranged class. When i dodged, my frames would move away from the mob into the large groups of melee, and it was pretty hard to get back into the bosses hitbox range. I wound up swinging at air sometimes even when i thought i could hit, simply because my animations couldn't move me forward to close the gaps. Maybe they should turn off collision detection on other players in rifts, but i know that won't happen. There were easily 150~300 people there. But that's enough QQ.
How it seems to work is...(i could be wrong, we'll know as we do more in k-tera)
Rifts are on some form of timer. I wasn't there for the start so I don't know how long they are, I logged in during its active time. When it ends there's a countdown and all rifts poof, whether its in combat or not. The first ones were tonight, so i have no idea how often they spawn. (Update: I heard it was 2pm, 4pm, 6pm, 8pm Korean time. I went to sleep so I don't know exactly, But there were 2-3 more rifts that i missed).
Blue and Red rifts pop up on your map. You ride to these rifts pre-grouped or solo, if you're solo it'll ask to put you in a auto-formed party which is balanced (tank+heals+dps+ranged dps+etc). You can say no. Blue rifts do not yet have a boss (I think!) and Red rifts do have a boss.
There's numbers on the rift that count upwards, and seems to be in accordance with the difficulty level of the mobs the rift are spawning.
At first its usually pocket mobs and trash, mostly, but a lot of them. Alternately, there's a few elites that have a lot of HP. As your zerg kills these, there are re-spawns that are killed, the number counts upward. After the elites die, the boss for the local rift appears. When this appears the rift turns red (the map on the icon). Looking at this in advance allows you to see what stage the rift is at before you go there. When the boss dies, the red rift icon disappears and the rift is closed.
I'm not sure if they re-spawn during the event timer. I think not but i'll pay attention to that next time.

The rifts spawn in 2 maps which are next to each other, in one region.
The first auto-group i got placed in at first was a guild of Koreans (about 30). They were trying to do it as a guild solo (the top rightmost one on the map, blue color) and i got placed in their incomplete one. They got it to 92% before everyone was dead. The boss hit very hard. It constantly spawned waves of pocket monsters while running around, not enraged. It charged me and did a 52k critical, then later on killed me by charging me for a knockdown then about 6 hits for 10k each.
Additionally, there's a constant environmental damage over time while you're in the rift, of about 1,296 per damage tick (for me, it may change for others). It adds up a lot over time, but pocket mobs that spawn drop health orbs when killed. Mystics overlapping their health totems helps a lot since you're almost guaranteed heals... There were large amounts of priests/mystics were spamming heals, so it wasn't that bad unless you drew direct fire from the boss.
Also, due to the amount of lancers (and for +12/+9 people), bosses may to switch aggro, sometimes charging through a group of people for 1-3 hit KO strings.

The reward system gives you a currency for each rift that you're within range of for its close. I showed up late, and got about 28-40 reward points from each rift. I totaled 220 points at the close of the rifts. My guildmates who had been there from the start got about 600-750ish total.

In town, you can trade in tier 13 weapons for 6000 reward points. Tier 13 armor for 5250. Gloves for 3850. So a weapon is about 9 or 10 runs at rifts.

You can also get green crystals for accessories and earrings which have things like attackspeed, extra strength, mana, and guildies think, pvp damage. They cost 700 reward points for white, and 2100 for green quality. They can break on death (a guildie suicide tried that out tonight too).

Lastly, the cool new horse mounts people want are here as well. This one costed 6000. I'm not sure where you get the others like the panther...
Fastest way to get the reward points is simply follow the zerg. The first rift I went to had about 30 people when i got there, and they got the boss to 92% before they were all dead, and we fought after my arrival for about 8 or 9 minutes. When we followed the zerg after loading in town we killed bosses in about a minute.
