Knockdown Damage from BAM's "Walking Around"

My problem with this particular BAM "move" is that most of the time it seems completely unintentional. It's like the AI decided it was either confused about where it wanted to stand or it made a decision to adjust its position because it was struggling with a targeting or line of sight issue.

The problem here is that it doesn't come across as an attack or intentional maneuver (like some of the other methods a BAM uses to shift its location or position). And rather than leaving me thinking "oh, the BAM just did something cool", I instead end up thinking "oh, the game just had brain-fart and I received arbitrary damage over it. Hooray.".

BAMs leaping/flying around, or whipping a tail in a damaging swipe as they spin to a new heading = cool and immersive battle. BAM shuffling around aimlessly because it got confused on a slope or some former move trapped me underneath it = I'm playing a game with minor AI issues and just took unjustified damage because of it. Needless to say, the latter adds to the frustration rather than the fun.

My only beef is how constant the temporary stun is - some mobs you get walked all over and you can't even do anything about it.

It's one thing if the mob suddenly decides to start walking over you and you take damage and you can even get knocked down, that's fine in my opinion, so long as if you're getting stepped on, you can actually try to get out of the way via dodge or blocking.

It's another thing when a mob suddenly decides to start walking over you and you don't even have a chance of reacting and can't act while they continue crushing your bones under their feet and after a second or two you get knocked down and the crushing continues. Very annoying and a "cheap" way of defeating a player.

Seriously this needs to be adjusted, its the stupidest mechanic they have, and is the vain of melee classes fighting bams be it group or in a party.

95% of my deaths to bam's is because it decided its gonna run around and tag me 10 ish times or so for 1k damage a pop... and then Knock me down multiple times. Throw in the fact that the BAM is generally faster than you (Especially when angered) and your screwed.

get a party with a healer. BAMs are 5 person group quest. READ before you do sht.

Even as ranged this can be annoying. As a person who has experience soloing many world bosses and BAMs it gets much worse when they enrage then trample you. If you're unlucky they will lead up to a combo attack and wipe you out right then and there.

It adds to the challenge and I prefer it. Would be pretty dull if you could hug their leg all day taking no damage when they moved.

Glad I'm not the only one who has had this problem.

I've had ONE time that I swear it just wouldn't stop moving until they hit me. It was a Kuma or whatever they're called. I was at max range on my archer and saw it come towards me so I start moving back. Then it gets close I backfilp and keep moving back then it gets close AGAIN in the same movement and I breakaway bolt; then everything is on CD and it just stomps on me. It was an impressively long distance and I didn't really feel like I was at any particular fault.

Funny part was one time the monster walked on top of me then switched direction twice ... I was taking damage for a good 10 seconds.

Yeah giant monsters tend to kill you when they trample you under their feet.
It's a common problem I'm sure.

I'm pretty sure that sometimes the BAM is coded not to stop walking until it reaches you and at least attempts to step on you. As a warrior that means that to get it to stop I need to use one of my dodges when it gets into range in order to avoid the damage and knockdown.

Leash is way under used by lancers. It'll stop most attacks but 'eye flash' level ones and it will generally get the boss facing the tank again.

I don't see hardly any lancers other than myself using it often though.
I save healers from getting whacked using leash all the time a few sorcerers have been saved by the move as well. While you still need to follow up with a shout to hold them, the leash is quite effective.

Don't forget it never hurts to have a couple of pots or scrolls to help you drop aggro too.
Not every tank is like me and has sacrificed all their glyphs/crystals to aggro.
It makes solo'ing so painfully slow...

Would it be wrong of me to mention there are crystals that reduce damage taken when prone??

Taking damage from movement is fine but this damage is instant and unavoidable. Some type of notification is all this needs.

There are crystals that reduce ALL damage from mobs and not just if you are prone. Seems like those would be better to use.
