Lack of black characters

@OP: Fantasy was written in a specific manner, where the humans are extremely divers in all aspects, and all other race's are more conservative and generally share features. In other words all race's except humans are special breeds like racing horses perfection + perfection so there's no way for "diversion" to take root. While as the humans do no follow that standard and as such are able to be more physically divers.

Like it or hate it that's fantasy for ya. FFXI/XIV gives you the choice of black any race you wish, but the lore there makes that possible. While in TERA the lore does not permit black skin as thats how it was written.

I always try to make Black Human CHRs but in TERA the blackest skin tone was still pretty light for what I wanted (especially in certain lighting)... I lime making black CHR's because they really stand out and are way under represented in MMOs

Still.. Didn't turn out too bad...

Cool character. I just want to be less butch

I get that. But its 2012. Its time for somethings to be changed. This game redifines combat. Why not step outside some of the general confines of previous mmos

FYI, in Dungeons and Dragons, the BASIS of all medieval fantasy, there are people with black, latino, etc. skin tones.

I don't know where this notion that "fantasy = pasty white" came from.

And for the record, you could DEFINITELY make black characters in WoW (for races that had varying human-like skin tones, I mean).

And the fact that you could make your character look like a gorilla or a telephone pole if you wanted.

More customization = good.

Agreed. And midget glads. Gotta love the midget glads.

Honestly, the OP isn't asking for much. More skin tones in a fantasy game in which things can be made up as we go along. Yes, this is the designer's world, but part of the game is what the players make out of it. It is also the player's fantasy.

I agree with you I made a Black character....But he is only Human...Other than Castanics the Black color palette is only available to Humans and Castanic races....No Black Elves, Amari, Baracka, and well the Popori are just cute little critters, and yeah I forgot no Black Elin...

If the OP would have stated and argued this topic in a fashion that was specific to just "More Skin Tones" - cool, so be it. But he is not. He is arguing what he feels to be a racial injustice - in a video game, which is just silly and the wrong place for any such discussion. I point to a quote that he responded to me with something along the lines of -

"How would you feel if all the characters were Black, and you only had 1 or 2 options to make them White?"

This is not an issue. I always play an Alien race of some sort. That is the idea of Fantasy, correct? To be something you are not, in a world that is not real? The color characters skin has absolutley no bearing in a fantasy world. The OP has tried to wiggle away from saying this isn't a racial issue to him, but clearly it is. And IMO - this is no such place for a serious discussion.

Nobody has answered the question I had earlier -

Why can't I choose Human Male on my character selection screen, the customize him like a Drag Queen with fake breasts, and reconstructive facial surgery to make him look like a woman?

Because it is NON ISSUE in a Fantasy World. This is not the forum to debate racial, homosexual, and transgender discrimination - based on character creation options. Give it a rest.

I think all the real-life skin tones should be available to every character, regardless of their in-game species/race, save for exceptions where you're playing a species/race that is a very specific color (e.g. Smurfs are blue).

Elves are so often used in fantasy games that forcing them all to be white/pale is just asking for trouble. Don't put players in a position where they're uncomfortable or frustrated playing their character, especially due to something as trivial as a color palette. That's just dumb.
