Not really...whenever they make races dark, they always end up a brownish grey. That is NOT the color of black people. We have a red undertone, not grey.
Also, I think people tend to overlook the issue a lot because it is so easy to say "it's not a really a problem", when the problem doesn't effect you to begin with.
If the game had no light/white skin tones and all races were dark skinned, there definitely would've been an outrage of crys from the community here in the west.
Its just those who aren't affected just don't care and see it as a minor issue, because the colors of choice they do like are already applied within the game to the races they like.
Why can't people just step out of their shoes every once in a while?
I love all the people jumping down the OP's throat. I don't see what he's asking for as anthing offensive or too much to be asking of EME. So what if it doesn't tie into another franchise's lore? Just stfu and let the guy talk. I think this would be a simple and appreciated addition to Tera by many of their fans, although, I think a lot of people will agree this goes further than just the skin tones. People enjoy more customization than is currently implemented for character creation and I really would hope that everyone could just agree that suggesting content to EME is pretty much in line with asking for your money's worth.

I know. And very few games actually do that. I think the last time I saw a black person colored that way was Zasalamel for Soul Calibur 3.
To all those people quoting Tolkien....this isn't LoTR, it's TERA. The game is new, they made their own lore, they can do whatever they want. Hell, elves could be lime green if they really wanted them to!
Onto geographical reasons. Humans are multicolored because they can live anywhere. That is true. If you want to use that as an argument though, then elves should be black because they live in a damn desert in TERA.
Tres.... I'm sorry you can't make a red head, but are you white? If yes, then a part of you is still represented whereas I don't exist at all. You are either white, tan, or grey in TERA it seems.
Don't tell me you are going to westernize the game but then still leave an entire market of people. I can understand asian games not having dark skin, because let's face it, the culture prides a "pure, white skin". Bring that over here though, where we are a melting pot of everything, why wouldn't you add in black people? Do we not play games too? Or is it because we are minorities in life that our representation doesn't matter in game?

I guess I don't see it that way. Like I have stated earlier in this thread - I am a 38 year old White man, married to a Latino woman, with 2 of my best friends being black. I work as an accountant.
The last thing I am going to do when I go home, is make a White, balding, middle aged Warrior with an Accounting tradeskill. I'm going to be the Blue - Skinned, white haired Elf, that wields a 300 pound axe in all directions, and make my living crafing the finest leather armor for the realm to purchase. At least for 2 hours a night.
This is not The Sims or Second Life. We are not trying to recreate reality here with equal ethnic representation. That would be impossible. In case you didn't know, there is no such thing as Elves! ( Sorry for the sarcasm )
My whole point in this thread is not about whether or not they should add a darker skin tone, to allow people to make their characters to appear more of African decent. I don't care if they do that or not.
What I care about, is the fact that people are bringing racial and descrimination issues into a fantasy world setting, when they don't belong here. This is no place for political activism, or racial activism.
If you feel that strongly about playing in a Fantasy World where your particular skin tone isn't represented on an equla fashion, then you sound like a political/racial activist to me. (By the way, I would consider myself a Political Racial Activist)
And if you are a political / racial activist like I am, but you can't seperate gaming entertainment from real world issues, then you should know what you need to.
Go purchase a game that is created by an African American owned corporation, and support the cause with your entertainment dollars, to try and affect positive change.
But to come on the boards and do this looks like sour grapes.
Arty -
I was not trying to be overly harsh with you or critical. I apologize if i was or it appeared that way. I was just trying to perhaps convey that this is one place ( a Fantasy Gaming World) where we can all leave all of that stuff behind for a few hours, and we can ALL BE SOMETHING WE ARE NOT.
When you get back out in the world, keep fighting the good fight.
I too found this a little disturbing. I would think it's fairly easy to open up more skin color choices for all the races. Maybe it's in the new patch and we have nothing to be concerned about.
Spikoli, I do understand where you are coming from. It makes perfect sense. However, when you look at it from the otherside, this is what I see:
You are over-represented so there will never be a game that you can't play that if you truly wanted to, you couldn't play a representation of you (excluding a premade alien/toon/animal player character). So it would make sense that you'd be fine with playing anything else.
I on the other hand, while I do prefer crazier races to the standard boring human, am so mis-represented and sometimes non-existent that I am ALWAYS looking for myself simply because I have yet to find it.
The day I feel that I am just as common (not demographically, but character creation wise) as you in a game and I no longer feel the disparity, is the day I will play a blue skinned character and not think...hrm, sure wish I could have played a black person instead. Most of the time, I'm a fictional race simply because its the only alternative to not being white. Nothing against white people of course, my husband is white, and so is my son...I just wanna be me for once is all!
