Like many people, OBT is make it or break it

I just can't help but feeling that OBT will either make this game or totally break it.

If the game isn't ready, people will just not bother spending $49.99 in fears of wasting more money on the next-big-MMO that fails.

I'd rather have a smaller, dedicated community than a massive community of whingers.

If you play an OBT and decide to not play the game for a stupid reason: good riddance to you. The majority of the players don't want you around anyway.

I have a feeling most people are just going to play this for a month or 2 kinda like when SWTOR came out.

Its still going strong on K-Tera and JP Tera. Why do you think this?

Define strong? Its natural for a game to spike greatly on launch then a few months later drop dramatically, this IMO is what makes or breaks an MMOs life. If it can hold 60% of their initial audience for more than 3 months then it'll do fine for the years to come. History has shown that games that cannot hold people the first few months get obliterated and get shutdown within 1-2 years.

OBT will definitely be the deciding factor for a lot of people who haven't played it yet. Hopefully they did good with the new starting area.

I haven't seen the numbers for a a month or so, but I believe that K-Tera has been doing fairly exceptional on its turn over rates over there. Another indication that it is going well is that BHS had to go with an early release missing some content due to financial issues - and is now doing so well after release that there have been multiple large content patches since release a year ago. Money fuels developement, and it seems BHS has made a good bit of it thus so far.

Just because they came out with a few large patches does not mean its doing well. CCP just laid off 20% of their staff and are still pushing out large patches bi monthly. Heck they even have a new expansion coming up called INFERNO. I'd say it did alright, considering that when it released it was #1 in Korea then a few months later it was knocked down to #3 and has been falling ever since. Regardless how it did in Korea has no bearings on how it will do over here.

Tera never went to #1 on release, due to Aion's stranglehold on the Korean MMO market, it has hovered from spots 2-4 consistently for a while.
