Loot thieves

I got a response today from a GM:

Hello Holdehamlet!

I'm very sorry for this player's blatant disregard for matchmaking etiquette. I hate to see things like this happen, and I feel there are steps we could have already taken to avoid issues like this, so I fully empathize with your situation.

I have taken a look at your thread, and the comments below, and as much as I want to just add the item and wish you a good day, we are not compensating for ninja looted items, because what we do for our customers tends to go viral, and we are not going to compensate everyone every time they are ninja looted.

So unfortunately I will not be able to give you the for-mentioned item. I can however send a report to our TOS team, and they will be able to look into the player's activity to see if this person is repeatedly abusing the system, if so action may be taken, and at the very least an official warning will most likely be issued.

I will be sure to hunt this player down, and make sure he/she is reviewed for their activity. I will also be more than happy, in fact in this moment motivated, to send a long and detailed game suggestion report, offering many of the ideas you, and the other people on your thread suggested, so that maybe one day we can eliminate ninja looting for good.

Your efforts have provided a strong stance for change to be made, and hopefully we will see this change in the near, and not distant future. If there is anything else I can do for you, or answer for you, feel more than free to respond or contact us again! I hope you have a fantastic evening! :D

May your will be strong, and your axe arm stronger!

Also, my billing issue was resolved by using live chat as someone in this thread suggested. Hopefully this thread will be productive in getting the loot rules changed so this kind of thing can't happen. Until then, though, I'll be mostly playing alts probably.

Anyway, I do appreciate the non-genericness of the reply. We'll see if change comes. Hopefully justice too in some way to the jerk that stole my and who know's how many items.

In the meantime, be wary of PUGs, especially ones where they ask for lead for no apparent good reason.

I find that for generic problems they give the canned response. I have gotten a couple, but whatever. I don't expect them to type me out a snowflake message when everyone else is having the same problem and I am just another name on in the pile. But, yeah, they do take the time to write out good responses to the non-generic problems and the one you got was written quite well. While I have never been ninja looted(which is probably because I use the LFD tool very rarely), I have been in the past in other games, and it is a selfish act.

I wonder if it would be possible to at the time you do a LFD group you put in a preference to how the loot should drop. Once you are grouped up the preferences are tallied and the loot drop method is created biased on what people wanted when they qued up and locked. Any changes would then have to be voted on by the party with a 120 second cool down.

I agree with RoChan that changing the looting method should require a vote. I'm glad that a GM took the time to write you that reply. I hope that makes you respect what this game and its support team has to offer, compared to all the other companies out there who are support nightmares.

simple fix.

Get a friend or 2, and then que up with "Willing to be leader" checked. 99% of the time you will be the leader if you brought the majority of the party with you (so at least you and 2 others).

This system also prevents you from being kicked from party as your friends won't vote to kick you if you don't end up as leader.

So there you have it, problem solved, you just have to make 1 or 2 friends in an MMORPG.

......not hard people.

My thoughts are, if you're in a LFD group, loot rules should be fixed and not changeable by anyone.

I also think that there should be a "roll need" and "roll greed" button on each item. If anyone rolls need, then anyone that rolls greed automatically loses the item. If loot is set to class-specific, anyone can roll greed, but only players who can equip an item can roll need. (I also think that if you roll need on an item, it's automatically soulbound to you, but that's not as big of an issue.)

In a group that's made outside of the LFD queue, then loot works the same as it does now (although still add the need/greed buttons).

Reasoning: If you're put in a random group queue, you have no choice who to group with. You can pick some friends to queue with, but once the group is made, you're pretty much stuck with the other people. Thus, the loot rules need to be something that everyone can find fair, and the group leader shouldn't have any extra benefits that the rest of the group has. On the other hand, if you're setting up a group before going into the dungeon, everyone has a chance to talk about how loot and such will work beforehand, and you're able to simply turn down a group you don't want if there's someone you know (either from your own experience or from others) you don't want to play with.

Can we stop with the victim blaming? Telling people who have had this done to them it's their fault for PUGing an instance is like telling someone who got robbed it's their fault for not having bars on the windows. How about we put the blame where it belongs - on the people who take advantage of the system to steal from other players.

The suggestions to "just make some friends" or "don't use LFD" are not solutions. Sure, they might put a band aid on the problem, but the real issue is that since we can't magically remove all the dishonest people from the game, there needs to be a system of some kind that prevents these people from being able to steal in the first place.

Not sure why they let this slip through. I remember in Lineage 2 that the group was formed with set loot rules, and they could not be changed unless you remade the party. Doesn't make sense that they wouldn't carry that over
