Love the game, hate the UI

So, MMO vet (EQ1 '99), and MMO podcaster for 7 years here. Love this game, but the UI has me scratching my head. I use a G13 so it's not a question of mapping keys or anything, it's the standard practice of having to pop in and out of camera view to do things that every other MMO does, like clicking on an object/NPC or something. I'm trying to adjust but I just don't see the point of this bass-ackwards UI. Is there some reason why it's built this way? It's obvious that the game has the capability to select objects since you can do that in cursor mode, so I just don't understand why we have to switch in and out all the time.

In any case, the game is growing on me.

You cannot select mobs with the cursor. Targeting doesn't work like that here. You dont have to enter the menu to select NPCs/items, just get close and press the interact button.

Play it like you're playing a first/ third person shooter and it will make more sense.

What objects/NPCs are you selecting in cursor mode? You do have an interact hotkey that you should be using instead of cursor mode (forget what default is since I've switched mine to A).

Hotkey is F, why would you even try to click on NPCs, its much easier this way.

Um...so on the island of dawn you might have learned something about your "F" key...

Did you retain that information? Yes? No? Because you're doing it wrong.

Way to be rude about it.

For the Tera forums that was actually pretty courteous and nice...

Most of us don't take kindly to negative criticism based on being an idiot, a noob, or being uninformed.

Yeah, the 'F' key. Dumb. People have been using the mouse to select items in games for decades and now this game comes along and the 'F' key is supposed to be ok? Come on, not even the biggest fanboi can admit that there's no need for it.

What NPCs am I trying to select? When there are three next to each other in town, or I'm trying to select the tailor vendor and then the bench. You CAN select objects and NPCs in cursor mode.

I just don't see the point of this new way of doing things. Making it different just because you can?

The pop in and out of camera view caught my eye...

Do you still have the option enabled to zoom in when talking to NPCs? (it's on by default)

I turned that off as soon as I found it...because the camera zoom in/out was making my brain hurt...I really think that should've been left off by default...
