Massive Tournament for Elections.

This is something I plan on working on more when we get closer to launch and/or when we know when elections plan on happening. But I want to throw this out to the community to see if people are interested.

I want to form a Server wide tournament for all guilds to join on the PvP Server I plan to join (most likely Jagged Coast). Itll be a 5v5 or a 10v10 tournament to show off the skills of each guild before elections start and so people, if they want can form a real decision about who they would like to be elected into office. Now yes, you can be elected through battlegrounds/pvp, but with battlegrounds not being available at launch, this would be a good way to put PvP into elections.

The rules of the tournament will be simple, guilds will be allowed to have a single team to represent them in this massive tournament. They will be allowed to exchange any members in their guild before their match but must keep their teams the same during each set. Each match will be a best of 3, until the semi - finals where all sets will then be a best of 5. This is to allow guilds to try and use new strats and a chance to adapt to the current team they will be going against. If this means that matches will need to take a week, then so be it. It is about making a good decision for the server, and not electing or a random guild only known by name to be elected. Maybe a guild of 30 has 5 people who we all known to be great players, but when they are together cant work together, this is to show this fault. This will also add bragging rights on the server for the guild.

I also plan on trying to livestreaming the entire event or each match and will be at least recording each match for people who may not be able to watch the current match. This will allow guilds to learn from their wins/loses and if someone finds some type of foul doing during the match will be able to question and show why said team should not receive the votes. But in order to stop any guilds from claiming the other cheated, what is decided after the match who wins will stay. The last thing we need is during the final match to have a single match throw off the entire tournament. I will review any videos with questionable winnings and if I find without a doubt that a team cheated, then yes I will disqualify them.

Finally I feel a third party should be the host of this tournament. Yes I use to be a part of Graviora Manent. But I will and cant hold any type of bias for or against them. This is about the server and not my own benifits. So for this tournament I will be remain guildless. When it comes to the gray issues between if someone cheated or not, a third party who plans to gain nothing after the tournament should lead this tournament and not a guild who can gain from this event.

So I come to you people of Tera, does anyone agree with such a tournament to prove that your guild is the best? If so, please say your guild name/server and that you approve. Spread this word to other guilds and websites and lets start the game community off with something the devs truely wanted. (can i have this stickied?!)

I think this is a great idea. It is almost like a presidential debate, but with swords. I wish I could see this type of debate in real life.

I don't know how many people would actually come to watch this that weren't already in guilds, but a tournament like this would for sure show who deserves to win the Vanarch position.

So.. the main struggle would be actually giving the winner of the tournament an edge in elections. Even though they win most people attending or watching these videos will be in a guild and voting for their own guild still.

Honor system alone, having everyone vote for the winner of the tournament, will most likely not work.

I think this could be a great way for Alliances to get together to pool votes on a certain region though. If there is an enemy guild of several guilds, the smaller guilds in the alliance could make this tournament an agreement of who gets all votes. It could be a very interesting way to shape the community down the road.

I wont lie, I expect this to happen. But the thing is I want this in a way too. Lets say slayers can kill anyone in one shot or something stupid. But another guild that doesnt use slayers actually puts up a good fight and loses in the very very end. I want people to look at this and say, you know what, maybe these people are worth my vote.

The idea is that this tournament can make guilds reputation better, or gain them the swing vote from guilds who know they dont have what it takes, but wants to find someone to represent them.

This tournament offers bragging rights, and gives smaller guilds a chance to either prove or a chance to see what other guilds are made of without watching premade videos of their "highlights". What makes a great PvP guild a great PvP guild is the fact they can prove it. Think of this more like a huge celebration for guilds to show off what they can do.

What you are talking about is a PvP CONTEST for the right to be Vanarch.

But other social issues prevail in an election. I for one will not be looking to elect a D-Bag, that happens to be the best PvP'er on my server.

Is your guild helpful to others?
What is your stance on unlawful imprisonment?
How do your guild members conduct themselves in open chat and open world with the rest of the server community?

I would much rather elect a Vanarch that is more representative of the Server Community as a whole - not someone from a Pro - PvP guild, that is looking to rule over the peasants.

agreed, but when you play on a PvP server, wouldnt you also want someone who know can represent the server in pvp if cross server pvp happens like how they plan? The idea isnt this tournament to decided who should be voted, its to allow guilds to use this as another tool to get their reputation out there, and to promote some type of community onto servers.

Right now I see the politics in 2 different forms. the First is the plan to help other in your region and what will you do to make it better. Almost like the economy or the macro of the politics, then you have the micro where you have to be able to do the quests, do the pvp, use your skills to get more things for your region. And on a PvP server, Ill vote for the guild that can prove to me that they wont be tyrants, but can also hold there own and not be stomped over by other guilds. With GvG, I would run that guild broke by attacking them constantly or just making them look retarded.

I think your "tournament", will serve as one aspect of an election that will have influence, but by no means a deciding factor.

People that want the most dominant PvPers acting as Vanarch will vote for your Guild Leader - Very similar to how the general public may vote for a candidate that has the strongest foreign policy credentials.

Economic, social, taxes - all other factors that will be considered.

If you are asking for your tournament to act as some sort of tie-breaking, or automatic additional influence, that EVERYONE MUST CONSIDER, I think you are kidding yourself.

Na, people will vote for who people want. But consitering the "pvp elections" are currently out for what i know of, this will at least put them into the PvP servers for consideration. If there's one thing I know, its that people will vote for whoever they want.

If anything I want 3 things to come from this. A Stronger community on the server, A general fun event that casuals and hardcores can do for kicks, and put some type of PvP into what elections will be. Even after the PvP elected Vanarachs come out, I still would like to do this as a celebration type event. If you really want to think of this like a yearly tournament in a video game. May not have much for prizes now, but if i gets big well see. (Yearly hosted tournaments at a big Tera event?!)

Sounds like a good idea. Hopefully when PvP Vanarchs become possible, EME will take a tournament style route for finding the best. From the Vanarch video "Best on the server" is pretty vague with the added fact that there are about 19 provinces.

PVP Tournaments already happen for Vanarch positions in Korean Tera.

Since BG's were taken out as of the last Queen of Aragon patch (in both Korean Tera and now NA Tera) these 'tournaments' no longer exists, for the moment.

I expect that the PVP Tournaments for Vanarch positions will come back when BG's are back in.
