I fully intended on making my Warrior only a damage dealer. However, tonight it was impossible to find SM group on Dragonfall. Someone in LFG suggested I tank because Warriors are faceroll now. I told chat that I'm not glyphed or have crystals for tanking but they said anyone can Warrior tank now. Okay so I had 120 stam, defensive stance, and good enough gear to get in but then the first three mobs I pulled at once ended up destroying me before the healer even healed me. I told the group that I must just be terrible and to find someone else.
I didn't even get to play with my aggro control. How the hell is Warrior tanking "faceroll" if I get blown up in about 10 seconds?
I was level 27 and I forget my equipment level but the dungeon finder let me queue so it must've at least met the requirement.
The mobs in SM hit hard if you're going in there just meeting the item level or character level requirement. I remember going in there on my newbie lancer barely meeting the ilvl requirement, anything that wasn't blocked hit like a truck.
It's faceroll enough that I can just walk over to a boss, use my taunt once and then dps without dodging or moving at all and aggro is never taken from me. Or I could probably just taunt every couple seconds and stand there.
Did you have the buff icon on? Maybe it glitched.
I can't remember if I had the buff I just know I had defensive stance but no charms. I guess tanking should be left to the higher level range for the instance. I rearranged my hotbar and everything. I was excited to try since I used cry and torrent but then my dream was crushed by my swift death.
I feel tanking bosses as a warrior should be easy, it's trash mobs I feel are the biggest problem... you really can't be mobile and keep agro with mobs chasing you... >_>'''
I don't have anything to add other than that I would have tanked for your group had I been online tonight. ;_;
Hell, I did badly my first time on SM as a Lancer tanking. It takes getting used to because SM is the first real place where you need to tank.
First of all, don't go in with the mentality that it's a faceroll tank. Ignore your supporting buffs and play as you normally would when trying to tank. What you want to do is avoid attacks which is the core of your class as a tank. Try to practice it--let your team know it's your first attempt or two at trying it.
Strafe the trash mobs in a circle with your basic attack. Use your dodge to get out of big attacks, keep things from hitting your party. Don't sit there and try to be hit. Think of being hit as the absolute worst thing that can happen to you, aside from losing aggro.
Give it a try and don't rely on the buffs to help you out. I see you're just trying to counterpoint the faceroll argument, but pretend it isn't even there and try it as you should.
Warrior tanking is pretty crazy, as a dps the only downside i see is the constantly wiggling boss that doesnt let me get off my 500k crits often but the fact that they do so much more damage than a lancer adds a huge boost to the party.
However, I do agree that the trash is the hardest part of a dungeon
Bosses should be easy as cake for you provided you can dodge. Perhaps getting some more gear for defense would help before trying SM again
