Need a new movement system? Might help healing?

When i say movement system. I'm more referring to the character following your mouse, which means you cannot use your mouse for anything else but steering your characters direction.

Personally i don't like it, i would much prefer it to follow your mouse when your holding down for example Right mouse button. Any time you are not holding down the right button on your mouse, your mouse would be free to move.

This would also link into helping healing ... I come from a relatively high end raiding guild from WoW (don't go hating because i want it to be like WoW, i just want it to be able to compete with WoW)

And the thought of mousing over your party to target them before a heal makes me cringe, this system if horrible, unreliable and if this is how end game healing will be, Tera will not be for me (So far tera is an amazing game, hence not playing WoW lol :) ) Your party is easily lost among the boss, and other players .. so targeting the person you want is a pain (IK this will be what determines a good healer from bad, but why take steps backwards from other games?)

So basically having a free mouse will allow you to target your party members, if using a heal which targets more than one, when you click on a frame, it will highlight green (much like the players do atm) and then click another frame .. and cast .. very simple just changing the player for their frame.

The healing in this game is not a step backward from WoW, it is very far forward.

Healing in other games in monotonous, repetitive and boring, atleast in TERA I look at the action instead of a green bar under a players name to the left.

Positioning is key and spamming heals get you no where because of easy aggro.

It grows on you and i'm sure you'll come to like it.

This game is not about clicking frames so best advice is to get used to it. If you can't this game just isn't for you.

Your proposal is the step backward. There are literally dozens of games you can play if you want to heal in that manner.

The movement / mouse targeting system is the whole basis of this game's combat mechanics to my understanding. If you don't like it, then this game probably isn't for you. To change this system to holding a button for your mouse to follow would make it unplayable, considering that's 99% of the whole game. You just have to get used to clicking your keys, and judge the distance of your spells.

It takes time and skill to be a good healer in this game. You can't just sit back while your party goes into the fray. You have to move around constantly to keep a good eye on them, which makes sense since this is a battle and not a click and target game. :)

Im not suggesting "holding a button for targeting" ??
My suggestion was to have a free roam of your mouse without holding Alt.
Simply i would just prefer to mouse over them with my mouse rather than move my whole screen to look at them which atm would highlight them green for a heal.
Doesn't seem that game breaking to me.

Anycase, i would still be involved in the combat the same .. its just how i target them would change, from moving my whole camera to target them, to clicking on them.

Sorry I just edited my post. That line was vague, and I changed it. Anyhow, those were my two cents. Thanks for the suggestion!

I like a lot of the aiming mechanics in TERA, but I do get what the OP is saying too. From a healer's perspective.

One issue is tanks going 'inside' BAMs. They literally disappear inside them as collision detection isn't wired up as solid as it could be. This makes aiming rough. But this is fixable if EME addresses it.

I also am not a fan of having my only heal spell being a lock on. It is pretty cool and has its uses. Especially with being able to target 2 units, or lock-on and then wait to cast. With this said, I think a secondary heal spell that has a straight-up aim and shoot option would be helpful. One target only. Maybe split Mystics and Priests where one gets a channeled aim heal and the other a burst shot.

None of this is a game breaker for me yet, but I'm noticing some clunkiness. It is probably something one can get use to, but it feels limiting in some respects and it leaves me thinking improvement in the design mechanics would help too.

You know the "thumb" button (go back/backwards) web page button on your mouse? Well thats what I have linked to group target heal spell. Plus I glyphed to 3 targets for it.

Its very easy to thumb click and ROLL OVER all ur party members... after some time it begins to feel like a copy and paste function.. except instead of text your highlighting your party members, then click left to get it off. Its really very easy.

But I do understand what you mean by hard to see your party especially when the tank is on the other side of a huge boss. I usually have to get closer than Id like to TARGET him THROUGH the boss... and of course by this time Im on the floor. Especially when you have baddies in the group, namely melee, that are always getting wasted because they dont know where to stand.
