New player wanting to know the TERA experience

First of all, I just purchased yesterday, downloaded all the stuff, keen to play the BETA tonight or tomorrow, I'm in Australia and I think that the servers will be up around 3AM my time, I've watched videos and read a lot about this, my first MMO was WoW, just quit SWTOR, and I know for sure TERA will be more than amazing and feel so much better than any other MMO out, why have I came to the forums on such a lovely day? I want to know how this works a little, here are some questions.

Q1: If I make a character tomorrow, can I keep it in the opening of the game?
Q2: Since I'm from Australia, and this is an action MMO, some other MMO's use the targeting system, will I bee affected since I would have around 100-300ms, will everything be jumpy and hard to hit?
Q3: What server should I play on? Are they oceanic only servers or do I have to play on North America server?
Q4: Has anyone found this to be better than any MMO? I've played WoW, SWTOR, AION, RIFT and others, this is most by far the most exciting game I've ever looked at. Is it better than it looks?
Q5: Recommended PvP server?
Q6: I have about 5GB left for 3 days to spend, will there be an another update?

I heard the community is great, please don't troll, I can't wait for tomorrow/tonight. En Masse, good work to you!

Q1: As I currently understand, yes, you get to keep it through the whole beta and launch cycle.
Q3: Valley of Titans seems to be where the PvP community is currently congregating. The only RP realm is Celestial Hills, and I do not know much about the PvE realms.
Q5: Valley of Titans.
Q6: As with all MMOs, expect further updates. Are any coming in the next couple days? I really can't say.

I haven't played the game yet, so I am not really qualified to give you an informed opinion about Q2 or Q3. But strictly speaking from my own opinion, which is currently based on multiple "Let's Play" videos, it appears that this game looks to release in the top 5 to top 10 of current MMOs, I'll reserve my actual opinion until I've actually played the game.

1. yes (note 19th is OB for preorders only, noon on the 20th is OB for everybody)
2. you should be fine for PvE however you might have a harder time in PvP
3. All servers are located in Chicago
4. i'll let the game speak for itself :)
5. go through the server forums and see which one looks most appealing to you. Also I think there is a server the oceanic forumers decided to concentrate on though I don't know what it is off the top of my head
6. There shouldn't be any big patches prior to release, but there will definitely be big patches in the future.

If you're lagging, you'll absolutely have problems playing this game. A quick switch of gfx settings could fix the lag, if you experience any, but if on lowest settings you're still experiencing spikes of lag during a fight on normal monsters, you'd better ask for a refund and use the money on a new computer.

1. Yes your character will carryover to launch.

2. I live on the west coast U.S & played Ktera with around 250ms and it was quite smooth, you will notice the delay of your skills but its workable (most of the players that stream Ktera have around 200-300ms and they still do ok),

3. With that high of a ping I would suggest you play on a pve server, you can pvp someone with lower ping but you will be at a big disadvantage so going on a pve server would be your best option.

4. From your list, I have only played Aion and i find Tera to be far superior.

5. Not recommended for high ping players.

6. Not sure.

~cheers~

Really depends, i know from what i hear you guys have much better ping playing on US server than EU. I suggest if you willing to shell out money i'm pretty sure there are payed VPN that will reduce ping or idk if there free ones, i'm not expert on it. However people have been playing KTera for a while now with 150-300ping and have done fine, just have to get used to it. However you will be at disadvantages, something that can't be fixed sadly =\

I have a $2000 gaming beast, I can play BF3 and much more maxed out, it's the latency I was referring to, thanks guys for the replys, really helpful.

Valley of Titans is the unofficial Oceanic server. It is also the most full server atm, so you would have to weigh out the pro and cons there.

In terms of latency, I would first and foremost, apply the Leatrix latency fixer. It works marvels and it's free and safe.
Second, you might want to look into some proxy providers designed for gamers. They are usually pay to use but you can use chrono scrolls (puirchasable with ingame gold) and pay for the proxy subscription. That will reduce your ping from 300 to 100-150 easily, which is good enough to play comfortably without experiencing any visual gliching caused by lag.

Why would people with 200 to 400ms ping play on the super-PvP server?

Why not go to a PVE server where ping isn't as important lol?
