This thread is for discussing tips to improve nexus framerates. Its not one of the other million threads to say bad things about nexus. Please be brief, stay on topic, share tips. If you dont have tips, move on, we dont want to hear it.

I set graphics to preset 2, remove check mark on "show names - on other players". This change gets me pleasant 30+ fps at all times and helps me identify guldies and party members in the crowd.
I am running an i5, 8mb, hd6870.
This alone made a world of difference in my nexus experience.

If you have any tips or advice for those of us that do participate and enjoy nexus, please chime in.

Also, in case admins are reading this, my Nexus experience last night was pretty much lag-free. Majority of participants were engaged in combat, we fully cleaned up 4 hubs through all 3 stages.
This happened in the Frost Reach server.

The zerg is the major cause of lag during the Nexus events. VoT yesterday had issues keeping the zergs apart, everytime they combined there were periods of 4 seconds plus where you couldn't do anything.

It seems most of the lag and server spikes complaints come from the highly populated servers. If they implemented a way to have more nexus events, a limit of how many nexus a person can do per day and maybe some kind of meter or system that will lock people out of the nexus area after a limit is reached... everyone would probably have a better experience.
But while that is not implemented, do you change your graphics settings at all when doing nexus? Got any tips?

VoT has two things going for it: Massive amount of players on the server, and a majority of the population inflicted with stupid.

It would seriously help if the zerg split into 3 or 4 groups to actually lessen total players on 1 nexus, to reduce fps lag, because you also have to deal with all the people who like to afk and not contribute anything.

I don't see how any settings with preset 2 wouldn't give you even better framerate returns at preset 1. As has been reported, there is something about preset 0 that seems to put excess load on the CPU while leaving the GPU unused, so that should be avoided.

This. Last night was my first Nexus and I have to say it was far more enjoyable than I was led to believe. Even with this laptop it was perfectly playable. FPS dropped to 10 a few times but still playable and, interestingly enough, able to chain my skills which normally I have a hard time doing in dungeons for some reason. All in all, I had a lot of fun and the feeling of all these people gathering together to defeat a common goal is cool. Who remembers Dynamis? :D

Zerulei, the big game changer for me was turning players names off. Not only it took a heavy burden out of trying to understand my screen, I can now pinpoint my friends and heal/rez them at all times.
That made a huge impact on FPS for me.

I left graphics on preset 2 because my system handled that without a hitch. Today I shall try preset 3 and see what kind of gameplay I get out of it.

Overall, I am really enjoying the nexus runs as well.

Thank you for the tip~ I'm going to try out disabling the nameplates today and see if that helps!
