I am all for Chronoscrolls, loved the feature in EvE and basically gives players an option on actually playing for free. There is no harm in this as everyone is benefiting with it's use.
Chronoscrolls are PLEX's.
In my opinion, while it seems that Chronoscroll is a way for the casual player to get some easy money - I believe this type of presentation on why EnMasse is doing this is a fallacy.
I believe that in an economy where game mechanics only get you $ amount of gold, and paying $15 USD will get you $$$ amount of gold, everyone will price their goods at the $$$ tier. Essentially the in-game currency becomes de-valued, and activities "in the game" that should normally allow you to earn enough money to buy everything that you need becomes worthless in the face of just paying real world currency for it.
So by introducing Chronoscolls, this type of mechanic makes it such that EnMasse has less incentive to fix or adjust the rewards from in-game activities, because the detrimental effect of those activities is offset by other player's just simply paying real world money to account for those in-game activites being essentially - broken.
They were spamming in a beta? XD This is crazy I hope chronoscrolls really will help getting rid of the majority of the gold sellers (I'm not stupid I doubt they will dissapear completely).
My face when people don't know what RMTing is.
This is an item that allows people to buy something for $15.00 and sell it for ingame currency for the people who cannot afford to buy another 30 days of the game, but wish to keep playing, which will do nothing but increase the player population and BOOST the economy.
This is NOT RMTing, there's no guarantee your chronoscroll will even be bought. You could've just wasted money. And if someone does buy it? [filtered], now they have 30 days game time! So imbalanced!
You people make my [filtered] head hurt, I swear to god. You complain that Elin's outfits were changed, you complained that pet shops were taken out, now you're complaining about this. It's not just that you're complaining, it's that you're blowing it out of proportion and it's a total [filtered] non-issue.
you guys make me rage. well done.
Well, now I've seen just about EVERY complaint thread....
Really... [filtered]ing about chronoscrolls now??
Hey people stop saying that's it's the players who CAN'T AFFORD monthly sub who will buy chronoscrolls! I'm sure many players, me included, can afford 2-3 subs and still will put their extra gold on chronoscrolls. Why buy if you can get free right? Or maybe buy it for a friend as a gift :) there will come a time when at max level you will hoard gold have have no ida what to do with it when your craft will be maxed etc.
There are only 2 choices we need to look at.
Tera W/O Chronoscrolls.
Tera WITH Chronoscrolls.
(obviously)
*Choice 1, W/O, RMT sell gold ANYWAYS... which defeats your point ENTIRELY. Money goes to RMT. And indirectly to EME. RMT use profits to cause inflation.
*Choice 2, WITH, RMT sell gold ANYWAYS... Some money goes to EME directly. And indirectly to EME. RMT try to use profits to cause inflation, but Chronoscrolls cause players to gain a slight advantage over inflation. (very slight.)
How can this be possible?
RMT offer some sort of... let's say... xmass special, get 1mil gold for x dollars. (lets say $10)
Some kids mom gives them $10 for xmass.
What people don't know, is RMT double the price of everything on the server (of any real value) and now you need 2mil, rather than 1mil.
Those of us who don't buy gold, will spend X amount of months farming up the gold. (Primarily talking about FFXI economy.)
By the time you FINALY get the 800k needed for the item, it's now 1mil... You spend some months past xmass, to find out its now 2mil... and only have 1.3mil.
(you can talk about items sold going up, but the scale between easily farmed items, to most desired endgame items, to be drastically different.)
Now.. let's say they purchase a Chronoscroll, Where some sort of endgame armor is worth, let's say 10 Chronoscrolls, They MIGHT be able to "save their progress" by purchasing chronoscrolls (via gold, not money) to act as currency that goes up in value, rather than gold, which goes down in value.
If you think this is all hogwash, then you played WoW or similar games too long, which use "fake" economies.
When an economy becomes as important to the game, as it is in EVE or FFXI, RMT becomes a serious problem. (chat spam is the LEAST of your problems. Not even being allowed to play the game is where RMT get real bad.)
EVE offered "Chronoscrolls" as a means to take the money directly, while taking away RMT. (They ban RMT, they lose accounts.)
All the while, indirectly, we can use the scrolls to help prevent inflation from becoming a huge problem.
(BTW I'm not in favor of money/AH based economies in my MMO, as they are unnecessary, but I do think Chronoscrolls are good for games that do intend to have money based economies.)
So taking away Chronoscrolls doesn't "do more harm than good" it simply ONLY causes harm, and NO good.
Period.
