I think some sanctions, goals, risks, and/or rewards need to be implemented for PVP. It seems really pointless and susceptible to devolving into something terrible.
I know there are a lot of people that like the current FFA OWPVP system, so maybe EME could setup some servers that are just straight up FFA PVP with no rules or restrictions what-so-ever (ditch outlaw, safe zones, etc. and let the community police itself). This is what it seems like PVP players are screaming for when anyone tries to post any kind of constructive PVP feedback.
There's too many problems with having the community "police" themselves. It's human nature... I have a low opinion of people in general until I get to know them. But it's a safe bet that people are destructive by nature. Without some kind of higher power putting law into place, people will destroy themselves and everything around them. It's why vigilante actions is illegal in most civilized countries in the world.
Granted no government is perfect cause human nature tends to kick in. But, law exist to keep them in check. Like in real life, you follow the rules nothing bad happens to you, break the rules and you pay the price.
We need a checks and balance system, rules that are created by the community simply cannot be truly enforced. If the game creators themselves implement the rules into the game, well it's enforced automatically.
You want to run around killing people half your level? great, feel free to. But there needs to be a price to pay to keep it in check. A "Checks and Balance" system needs to be implemented to avoid unwanted chaos.
There will be no penalty's you can be sure of that. This is a modern MMO being redone for western audiences. They wont tolerate any consequences for your actions today. Wow showed that the young an rude will never tolerate having to think. it must be all given free fast an easy....
Sad but the days of the true MMO are long gone. Dont get me wrong I like tera, but today's player base only know two thing's, shinys an zero consequence.
Woo, thanks for finding that Fatwa. I'm glad that one of the devs, or whoever he is, feels the same way. The Risk vs Rewards ideology is always great to help keep things balanced. Straight out gankfests without risks is ridiculous and frustrating to those who can't do anything about it.
