You must not be a pvper.

Just one more excuse PvPers use for losing, they carry no weight with me.

I played alot of f2p and you can not tell me that a vast majority of em aren't p2w. Really name me a decent one that isn't. Unless you're talking about planetside 2, but that's not out yet.

I agree with your last point though. It's stupid how many people throw out the word "failure" for mmos when they aren't failing at all.

Vindictus
Champions Online
City of Heroes
Aion (US version)
Lineage 2
Guild Wars 1 (buy to play)
Everquest (content limitations)
Everquest 2 (content limitations)
DCUO (DLC content)
Tribes
Firefall doesn't seem to be
Guild Wars 2 doesn't seem to be

Those are just the ones I could list off the top of my head, there are far more that could be added. Experience boosts don't mean pay to win, that's a convenience purchase that doesn't make your character any more powerful than another, you just take less time to level. Big whoop, when you're finished leveling you're just as powerful as everyone else is.

Yea I guess those are all some pretty solid points, they're newer f2p's that I wasn't thinking of. However I do see aion and l2 going very p2w in the future. I guess I was thinking more along traditional mmo's as you've named a couple shooters, a dungeon crawler, and 2 older games. You're right though mmos that go from p2p to f2p do tend to not be p2w.

GW2 - Only reason why this is getting so much hype is because of the fans and success of GW1. Sure GW1 got old and isn't a game that the game play won't last more then 2-3 years, but you can't deny the sales of the game along with the fact many love(d) this game. It is also Free to play.

No it isn't? At all? In fact the ONLY people I ever see complaining about stupid things from gw2 are gw1 players. The hype is from all the ways it changes a traditional mmo. And for me at least it lived up to every bit of hype and more.

Huh? You don't think GW2 is getting this much hype because the success of the first one? GW1 may still be going on but after a couple years tops (even a lot earlier for some) it got old fast. F2P what do you expect? But still, the success was there enough which builds the hype for GW2.

You're just a little bit too stupid to talk to.

You're totally right that a lot of the older games, specifically a lot of the low budget Korean MMO's, do have p2w cash shops. But if you look at the trend that f2p MMO's have been going in over the past 2-3 years they've moving away from that and moving towards selling convenience, cosmetic changes, and services instead of power. It's great because that system is proving to be very profitable for companies and beneficial for the players too.

Oh nah you misunderstood me a bit. Of course building a successor to an already popular and (for the most part) well respected game is going to make it a bigger deal, I don't deny that at all. But I would in no way say the majority of gw2 fans are gw1 players.

Exactly it's like what's the difference in getting $200 from 10 people and getting $20 from 100 people? Thats always how I thought f2p devs should look at it.

Tera has a chance to usurp current mmos with it's combat.

Other larger companies are doing what they can to keep media about Tera on the d-low.

I will admit I never played GW1 because I was very hard core into WoW and end game raiding so I had no time to even try it out. But to me why wouldn't the majority of the fans of GW2 be GW1? They are getting a new and improved game. Hell I don't even know how many even still play GW1 but I know if they made a sequel of one of my fav mmo's why wouldn't I be a fan then?

I can see why EQ2 and EQ1 fans would be different because EQ was a different community and EQ2 came out after WoW so that would draw some of that crowd and yeah I would bet EQ1 fans weren't happy about it.

I don't get how more non-GW1 fans are greater then GW1 fans/players?
