Who else is going to pass on Tera because it's the same ole' MMO....
Was really hoping to get into Tera but after level 12 I just got quickly bored with it.
Things I did like while in Tera.
Combat was fun!
Graphics are good to look at!
Forum Mods ( Minea ) are awesome! :P
Thing I did NOT like while in Tera.
Besides the combat, NOTHING is improved on vs other MMO's!
Traditional quest system - If I wanted to quest like this, then I would stick to the 10 other mmos on the market.
No dynamic event system. Give us a reason to group up to take down a boss or something! This is an MMO after all!
Need to read a huge quest description to find out what's going on. Sure I like reading books, but when I start skipping quest dialog because its boring.... ya....
The quest text tells you is happening in a quest is not actually what is happening in the world. For example, in a traditional MMO, the character who gives you a quest will tell you ogres are coming to destroy the character's home, and you need to kill them. You then get a quest which says, "Kill 0/10 ogres" and you proceed to kill a bunch of ogres standing around in a field picking daisies. Since every player in the game needs to be able to do this quest, the ogres will never actually threaten the character's home - they will just eternally pick daisies in the field. The ogres aren't actually doing what the quest says they are - the game is lying to you!
The decisions I make do not reflect what happends in the world!
Waiting for boss spawns. Why can't you make it that who ever is on the same quest and helps kill a boss get credit? I don't find waiting around for a mob to spawn enjoyable, do you?
It's just a re-skinned MMO with pretty graphics and better combat.
Final Words.....
MMOs have become extremely popular, but the genre has done little to evolve over the past decade. Generally MMO players explore an unchanging, persistent game world, leveling up by performing quests which do not change the world in any way once completed. It's time for the genre to take the next step, and explore the idea of a truly dynamic, living, breathing persistent world where the player's actions really make a difference, and everything that occurs in the game world has cause and effect. And NONE of this happens in Tera Online. :(
So I will NOT be buying Tera Online at launch but if it ever goes F2P I may play it again!
P.S. Guild Wars 2!
P.S.S. Blightwood has been down for awhile. If you can't keep servers up now, or even have a CSM comment about it, how do you think that is going to be during LIVE?
