inb4 build your own.

Buy a Falcon or an Origin or any other boutique PC maker. Alienware is wholly owned subsidiary of Dell.

Excpet that Origin and Falcon are 1.5 to nearly twice the price of alienware systems for the same [filtered].
Its cheaper to build your own anyways
but the Alienware x51 is a fairly unique machine designed to be a gaming console for PC games.
Its a pretty good buy for what it is.
its very very difficult to make a similar product for the same amount of cash+Support.

Like I said, inb4 build your own. In any thread about boutique builders on any forum, half the people posting are always going to say this without realizing some people simply have no time, patience, or desire to do this.

You also definitely do not get the same [filtered] with an Alienware that you would with a Falcon or any other quality boutique builder. You honestly think they can afford to offer prices so much lower without cutting corners? If someone is going to spend the extra money and not build their own rig, they need to at least go to a builder who doesn't use substandard parts.

Hey guys,
I'm selling my iMac for a $1000 flat and I'm looking for a gaming PC that will play Tera as well as others completely maxed with high fps. How do you think this machine might hold up?

PROCESSOR: Intel Core i7-2600 3.40 GHz with Turbo Boost Technlology up to 3.80 GHz

MEMORY: 8 GB DDR3 1333 MHz HARD DRIVE SIZE | 1 TB SATA 7200 RPM OPERATING

VIDEO: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 555 with 1 GB DDR5 graphics memory

POWER: Alienware 330-watt power supply

Thanks!

Mycal

Don't ever ask about recommendations on alien ware on any gaming forums. It's the "cool" thing to bash on them no matter what. I bought mine, lower end, and I'm having no issues at all. That's not to say you would have issues if you build your own, and maybe cheaper too.

But for me, it's worth paying the extra money to just get exactly what I want, have it put together, have a warranty if something goes wrong, and just not deal with any potential headaches of me building it incorrectly.

Jebus folks folks his answer is simple. IS call "www.newegg.com" and "Any local PC store" for help. You can build a kick @$$ machine for less. Also Alienware is just a pretty computer in which it's insides are garbage. I will take a horrible pc that can break world records any day than a computer that looks pretty and performs like trash.

Simple guide to making your own PC:

1) Don't go cheap on your mobo(MotherBoard) for the none tech savvy.
2)Don't go cheap on your power supply.
3)Any half @$$ case can do if you get good fans to replace the standard ones.
4)You don't need the fastest CPU or RAM on the market. Is bs and lies of PR. Get yourself a good average !5/!7 or Sandy Bridge in bewteen. Then you can upgrade as you go later on.
5)If you don't got the wisdom or knowledge to build it yourself go to your local PC store. It will cost you around 100-200 dollars depending the place for them to assemble everything for you.
6)*Rinse
*Repeat
*Be happy?

Good luck!

All alienware products are a complete ripoff. You can always get the same exact stuff for about 40-50% less if you build it yourself.

And you can get much better looking cases too =)

Also Never buy from Ibuypower/cyberpower, both companys are very very bad..

I tried buying a computer recently from Cyberpower. It arrived DoA. Took over a month to finally get everything resolved with them after I hounded them with many, many, many phone calls and emails.

Cannot say enough bad things about this company.

Case fans: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103060

You won't "need" the case fans if you pick the best option for case selection, as that comes with fans. The cheap case comes with a fan, but i'd recommend picking up 1 or 2 fans to be on the safe side. ( Remember, we are gonna overclock this system to get more bang for your buck )

Case ( Cheap option ): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119227
Case ( Best option ): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119160&cm_sp=Cat_Computer_Cases-_-Spotlight-_-11-119-160

Do you have a retail version of windows 7? If not, you will have to buy it or an upgrade if you have a windows xp / vista disc laying around that isn't OEM.

If you have a disc laying around you will save 100 bucks by buying the Windows 7 home premium "UPGRADE" version. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116713

Retail version ( 100 bucks more ): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116716

COSTS:
( Rounded off )
Motherboard: 200
CPU: 220
CPU Heatsink: 30
Fans: 0 / 16 ( 8 each )
HDD: 110
Video Card: 150 / 300
Memory (RAM): 70
PSU: 150
Case: 50 / 150
DVD Drive: 20
OS: 0 / 100 / 200

Cheap option: ( no extra fans, cheap case, 1 video card ): 1000 bucks
Best option: ( 1 extra fan, best case, 2 video cards ): 1258

Add 200 bucks if you want retail windows 7 home premium
Add 100 bucks if you have a windows xp / vista disc, and you get a windows 7 upgrade disc instead of retail.

Costs don't include tax or shipping.

That's the right reason to go boutique and I'm glad you personally do not have problems with your rig, but you have to got to understand that ever since it was acquired by Dell, the quality of Alienware has simply not been the same. They -do- cut corners wherever possible.

Build your own
Best advice out there hands down

If you can put together a lego set you can put a computer together just as easily... I was doing it when I was 10 years old.

Spent 580$ on my new rig
i5 2400
new extreme 3/ gen 3 mobo (to support future upgrades)
Silver or higher certified name brand power supply!!! (important)
8gb gskill 1600 ram
gtx560

I ran with 20-30 fps during the beta invasion events, turned off shadows and ran at 40 fps till they started spawning monsters where everyone dropped. You odnt need better then that.
