LOL people still talking about this. LFD is going in, its cross server, it has a port, and its been confirmed by EME and Frogster. There are plenty of other ways to make friends other than running instances.
Personally I can't wait until it goes in(and it is going in). Allows me to queue up with friends while still doing other content and quests. Why are people against this? Community? Join a freaking guild.

I fought hard to keep it out of RIft, to no avail.
The majority want the fast paced city life with no real attachments, those of use who want to know the people around us (on our server) and want to see names and guild names we recognize are in the minority, just like city out populate a small town so too does the opinion of those masses outnumber ours. It is a losing battle. *shrug*
I will quote here some of mine, along with really wise words from a similar topic on the CBT3 Feedback forum:
People need to read there Manuals more...
"Y" Key brings up the LFG Billboard. Post your Message!!!!!
You can view how many people are in the party, what their classes are, AND the best part. You can make the LFG to be anything you WANT!!!
Dungeon, Quests, BAMS, PvP, Dancing Contest, ERP, what ever the hell floats you boat, you can make a group for in right now in game.
Hit your "Y" Key...... or check your menu bar if your using a controller....

I think the bigger issue with an LFD tool being implemented would be the community killing effect that WILL happen. Mainly cause you don't have to make friends to do anything.
TL:DR
Im sure alot of you played wow, and back in vanilla(0-60 wow) you saved good players to your friends list, invited them to dungeons/guild etc. there were far less trolls, no Anal < insert skill name here > in trade etc. move up to BC (60-70) essentially the same there was no lfd/lfg thing you made groups with friends, asked in lfg channel etc same thing as vanilla.
Then the massive communtiy killer came in, wrath of the lich king (70-80) after you got to level cap, you litterally sat in dalaran(main city) and queued dungeons not making any new friends(cause they were all from other servers). The [filtered]hatery (best fake word ever) jumped 50 fold, and trade/general was filled with trolls and just flat out jerks that flame and belittle one another over and over, also the chuck norris jokes that went on and on and on. anal < insert skill name here > started.
now come to present cataclysm (80-85) multiply everything that was done in wrath 300 fold. progressively the community dies, hating one another, losing more and more respect for everyone but themselves.
I am certain some or all of this was stated in previos posts, this is more just a timeline of my theory of lfd/lfg causing the downfall of a gaming community.
if your a wow player/ex wow player and you question any of what was said. ask yourself this question. When was the last time you made a friend in the game that wasn't in your guild?
wall of text crits you for 67591(4309 overkill)
oh to clarify im neither for or against lfg/lfd implementation because I find it useful to use yet I recognize what it has done to other games.
OK, I will say it again, since every time I say it, it happens to be muffled by the "I want it easy" team. It's all a matter of educating the playerbase to use the ALREADY EXISTANT LFG system. If everybody who wants to group posts there, it's guaranteed to find you your group. Any time, any server, just because the ONLY difference from it to this dungeon finder you want o badly is that you would have to browse groups on a list, or write a SINGLE SENTENCE about what you want to do.
Spamming chat channels is highly ineffectve cuz it's only seen on an instant |(someone who logs in right after you post your spam will not see it, and he could be a potential companion). Are you guys THAT LAZY that you need the group to be formed with the click of a button? and you need to port to the instance so you never need to leave Velika? C'MON!!!!
Just use the LFG toll as-is! WALK the world, KNOW the world, IMMERSE into the game. BE SOCIAL!!!! gather people for your friends list, make friends!!! Don't turn Velika into a queue lobby. It's all a matter of using what's already at our disposal.
If you don't CARE about the social aspects of an MMO and just want to run dungeon after dungeon with complete strangers for your phat loot and EXP, you'd be better off playing WoW. Or Skyrim, all alone in your PS3;
My biggest argument against the LFD tool is my memory.
I remember back before any games had them. You knew exactly who the ninjas were. There was actual punishment for your wrong-doings. Or (from personal experience) letting your friend on your account and your friend doing it. You still took the beating for it. People got kicked from guilds for it, they were blacklisted from groups, they were literally that kid in the corner of the class with the dunce hat on.
Now you can just go in, take 5 pieces of gear, leave group, and its like it never happened.
This "never happened" isn't only coming from the fact you're cross server, but also from the speed in which you obtain gear. Even if you didn't have a X-realm-LFD in most games you still obtain things so fast via lfd that when someone steals it you go "whatever I can get it 30 minutes from now".
There should be rewards for doing things correctly, and doing things with effort. Not the other way around.
the only reason to vote against this is that it kills OWPVP. so I would add a caviat to my vote of yes, which states if implemented leave one or two (depending on overall game pop post release), out of the mix that way OWPVP isn't affected quite as much, unless they add some other driving force to push people to pvp in open world (like rift did with its pvp rifts).
For PVE, it adds a lot of convenience for casual players and more hard core players alike as they can just jump into the queue and go, or grab a couple friends and jump in the queue and go, yes cross server makes people less acountable for being douche bags, and makes people generally less social, but this is typically solved by getting into a guild and being social yourself - get a guild and queue up with a half built group means you queue faster, and you can be social at the same time.

- Reason: I wanted to add the fact that I really could care less one way or the other, While I think the LFD system is conveinient for picking up that last member in a group... Honestly I haven't grouped outside of groups that were atleast 4/5 or 5/6 gruild groups

The thing about LFD in rift is that most of the better players, myself included rarely used LFD except as a method to port to the dungeon. I knew who the players on my server that were good just from having played with them *im sure there were others I didn't know about healers/tanks/dps were, invited from that list & my guild and then went in, i sometimes would go with one spot open but if I couldn't get a fullish group together I would usually just Rift or go mine ore because I didn't want to deal with bad players.

I like how you keep posting this without any sort of source from EME that it will be cross server. GDC notes say nothing of cross server btw.
Unrelated: I like how the poles are reversed at the beginning of the thread.

In short you were popular in your small town.
But now that you're in the Big City no one knows who you are.
