Party Penalties - Get rid of it

Hello,

I'm suggesting changes to the experience point penalty of grouping. It's atrocious how much of a hit xp takes when partying with someone 5 levels lower than you.

The whole point of MMO's is to play with people, your friends, loved ones, etc. Penalizing players because they want to group up (I'm talking more than a 50% cut to xp) just because you're a few levels higher is such an archaic way of thinking.

With Guild Wars 2 coming out, and other MMO's adopting a modern take towards partying and level difference; this game needs to update and stop punishing players for wanting to play together.

Thank you

*Edit* For clarity I'm asking that the cut in experience points when partying with people within the appropriate level range not to be such a significant loss.

Other MMO's I've played do the same thing.. so higher level chars can't powerlevel lower level chars.

Hello Ursadorable,

Thanks for the response. I'll edit my post for more clarity. I'm not asking for the level difference penalty to be lifted. I'm asking for the level they have in game appropriate for partying to not be penalized for such an XP loss.

Most games do have this penalty, but numerous MMO's are allowing either a level sync system, temporarily leveling down the character so everyone can play with each other.

Separation of players in MMO's defeats the whole purpose of playing this particular genre.

The problem with temporarily deleveling is that it would be used as a way to gank low levels without penalty while they enjoy the nice equipment bonus.

The issue is that by the time you have a three level difference you have scaled the power between characters in such an extreme manner that content that would challenge the lower level player is blind easy to the higher level player. If you have the reverse (content that challenges the higher level player) the lower level player is contributing virtually nothing to the encounter and is, in effect, being handheld through the content.

This is a fundamental design decision by BHS. Players are intended to stick within a narrow level range to experience content together.

Hey Castellan and Kortezxero,

Thanks so much for these helpful responses. Maybe not downleveling then. My main problem is every time I try to party up with my friends / loved ones it's a penalty and they get zero xp. We had a 5 level difference, if the difference is 3 levels then what I read on the website was misleading.

I just hate feeling like I'm being punished for partying. I understand partying can be abused, but surely they could decrease the xp penalty for playing in a party.
