Party exp penalty

Here's the problem: I usually play the game with a friend, and inevitably there will be level differences between us, as we don't have the exact same life schedule obviously. Tera's party exp penalty is ridiculous, once I level several times over my friend, neither of us gets any exp from monster kills (a monster that usually gives 3k exp now only gives like 90).
Question is, how are we supposed to play together in this game? Wait for her to solo all the way up to my level or me to solo all the way up to her level whenever there are level differences between us?
Wow.

yes thats about right. my wife and i have a couple toons we run with together and we have some that we do seperate. so if one of us feels like playing well the otehr don't we have other toons we can play on till we are both at lvl 60 and no longer have to worry about the lvl differences.

but, this might be a option you would want to concider if your really wanting to play together. create another toon to use well your not playing together and save the one for when you are playing together.

That's the unfortunate truth about this game. Any grinding with level difference will give you a bad time, there isn't a way around it.

The only thing you could do is do quests together. The quests are always a flat experience rate and won't be reduced. The only problem is, that the higher level of the two won't reap the benefit as much. But on the bright side, this will allow your partner to catch up to your level, so you can do things together.

Yeah, the combination of focusing on the lower level player's quests and trying to reserve characters specifically to play together (so they stay near the same level) is a pretty good way of handling this. If you're playing a support class, you can also just hang around them while they level and support them without being in their party, which avoids the exp penalty.

One thing you can do is create a character for just when you two party together, and hop on another character when your friend isn't on.

I never understood why mmorpgs, a SOCIAL game, gives xp penalties. O.o That's a problem I think they should ...work on?

Discourages power leveling. Other MMOs have some short mentor system.

I play with a good friend of mine, and this frustrates me. We have different schedules as well and we can't both be on at the same time. She has less time on her hands than i do, and all i want to do is spend what little time we have teaming up. This really is frustrating because it discourages playing with others.

It may suck...but it is protecting our economy.

I played another MMO where the exp was nerfed once you hit 20 levels...but you still got good amounts with exp aids and such. Now, this games economy is in the toilet because people sell power leveling services at outrageous prices...I have yet to see anyone offer a p. level service on TERA and I am extremely thankful for that...Yes, it does bite that the ones who would use it to good intentions can't...but its also a safe-guard against the people who would just manipulate it and use it for their own selfish purposes.

When I was leveling a chara with friends..I would ask them how far they would get in the quest line, I would catch up to them..and if I didn't catch up exp wise I would do repeatables or do some CS. I am just throwing some helpful suggestions. :)
