No, I don't think BHS or EME are wasting their money. I think they have a solid plan and at the same time, they have -realistic- expectations on that ROI. Not the imaginary returns that so many others see when they look at the western market. However, basing an argument on whether or not something will make TERA a massive hit in the west is (to me, obviously) pointless, because it presupposes that it is -expected- to be a massive hit in the first place.




The goal of EME is to Westernize the game.

Punishing RNG mechanics are something that doesn't fly in the West. Games that have done this in the past have failed.

The people who say to keep the system as is, have already stated they don't want a "Western" game. They want a K-MMORPG with translations.

Which means the people agains this system don't want a Westernized game, which is the whole point of EME and their job.

Now when you choose to fight the boss, you have a chance of failing(dying), and let's say this boss is really hard but the reward is great so you keep trying and you fail(die) many, many times, but finally you succeed, what are your feelings then? Probably pretty damn ecstatic.


In this case, your chance of failing is directly related to your skill level. Enchanting is left up to the RNG gods. I feel ecstatic and proud from beating a hard encounter pvp or pve. I feel lucky when enchanting goes my way or get a drop the very first time. I feel frustration when I get -1 from enchanting because all I did, and CAN DO, is press a button. Only one of these situations are within my control.

So, lets just remove all RNG from the game... Guess loots got to go, cause, its dropped via RNG. There we go! problem solved! now everyone has the very best! starter gear ftw.

Though really, why do people cry about this? Just cause its not very well hidden? not sure people understand how much RNG is in video games. I mean, you nit wits played that abortion called WoW right? its whole combat system is RNG based. % chance to hit? RNG, % chance to evade? RNG, % chance to do anything? RNG.

RNG is like rolling dice, which all RPG games are based on. Cause % to do something, is the best representation of real life functions that us humans can come up with till we solve life.

The system is not even close to being harsh, its really quite friendly and nice. Plus, who wants to enchant too much before max level? i mean the next tier of gear will always be better then your +9 item a tier lower.

I like the enchant syste. Actually I rather enjoyed the Lineage 2 system also. It was a rush lol.

This entire line of reasoning begins with a couple of faulty premises, and I'm not taking the time to deconstruct them. At this point, we will simply have to agree to disagree.

Conversely, lets make EVERYTHING RNG. If one thing can't have RNG, then all things can't have RNG. If one thing has RNG, then why not everything have RNG? Same hallowed, empty argument.

RNG is fine here and there - RNG that removes progression that is out of the players' control is the problem.

Well played, I agree 100%. People need to realize that the game developers will never be able to satisfy everyone and that just because you don't like something doesn't make your opinion the only one that matters. The devs will decide whether to change or keep the current enchanting system and whatever they do I'm behind them 100%. I understand that while BHS/EME wants their playerbase to enjoy the game, they also want to keep subscriptions active and RNG is a very viable way to do this whether people want to admit it or not. It sets up a kind of eternally moving goal and for some, will keep them playing trying to reach that goal.

Thank you for pointing it out that people will have to resort to RMT's to get a +12, if that's the case then TERA is one foot it the grave before it stepped out of the door.
