The way we've managed to get around this is funneling all hides our guild members get into a designated leatherworker. It has resulted in us with surplus. :)
That said, my guild's focus is to support crafters, and we have a pre-constructed priority system for who gets what mats, so this might not be realistic for most people.
HUGE BUMP! It is rediculously unbalanced compared to rocks, essence and plants!
I am tempted to go and try and "gather" dawnhides by doing back to noob island and killing mobs. But I don't even think I will get any drops as a 32.
Does that mean once you reach a certain level your only option is to buy the hides of the broker?
I literally spent all day Saturday trying to farm dawnhide and I only ended up with 8 at the end of the day.
I finally hit 50 leatherworking last night after farming since Friday.... and now I'm too high a level for anything in that bracket to be worth crafting, except to resell. So now I have to do this whole song and dance over again with greenhides. :c
I farmed stuff like the boars outside Lumbertown, so I wouldn't level up.
Absolutely, this NEEDS to be fixed. I don't know about dropping carcasses everywhere since that might mar the landscape, but a much increased supply via drop or extraction is desperately needed.
The same treatment needs to be given to Greenhide as well, and even future hides we haven't reached yet if their drop rates are just as atrocious.
