Either way - the relase is nearing, the time is running out, and EnM still doesn't even seem to be considering 1 server with less castration (even if only limited to availability of npc-only mischief boxes and pet shops).
A terse summary of the pro-shops PoV - from this and many other threads.
::functional castration:
there's no replacement for their features in sight:
- BUYING, which also implies:
- - very negative influence over crafting, removal of wonders a well placed buy shop can do
- - limitation of WTB spam
- - no quick sell possible anymore - from shop's customer PoV
- locality
- independence from vanarch
- tax avoidance
- no buy/sell quantity constraints
side effects of removing them:
- what about vanarch's AH options ?
- what about vanarch's election/baiting tool ?
other:
- wasted trading areas in Velika
::other things:
the areas they can be placed in are few and far between - the only thing needing eventual adjustment here are near-npc areas
shop themselves are very constrained (only 1 shop allowed
per server, shared by all characters similarly to the bank)
market split is just a fud - AH by its very nature is central, shops complement it; both bring their respective advantages to the game and complement each other - with shops automatically becoming supplementary feature
In context of RMT - their job is far simpler with shops removed, having single interface to play with everything
RMT adverts ? It's EnMasse's job to clean them, game's castration is not a solution (or rather pseudosolution). Chat and direct messages gonna be removed as well ?
::few commonly repeated technical "reasons" (also keep in mind everything works just fine on more densely populated KR servers with much more affinity toward using pets):
graphical lag is of no issue - UI on/off knob makes them invisible for anyone that doesn't want to see them and/or doesn't want to use them; upcoming Nexuses and certain areas in game cause far more fps problems than any amount of 3 simple shop models ever could; this is pretty rare "kill 2 birds with one stone" thing completely ignored. And sadly - looking at
"new game features" -
deliberately lied about by EnMasse now feeding on players' lack of knowledge about aforementioned UI knob
server lag is another fud preying on common misconceptions - a crowd of people constantly clicking on AH's search would cause thermal meltdown, IF shops (1s*10a/account/server) could cause any lag in the first place; just
think how an auction (50a*#characters/account/server) and shop's goods look on the server side and how little difference between them
network lag - similarly - the shop positions are sent once, contents only when you click on a particular shop; compare it to a crowd of dozens of players (causing fps lag ! horrors ...) that click on AH's 'search' (especially after allowing
over 6 times more auctions now, per character)
