It's been stated that this will never happen. (It wouldn't be at all fair for PvP players who have had to compete for gear to be outclassed by PvE players who had a much easier time of it.)
Yes, because with an instance finder and multiple channels, pvp'ers have such a hard time of leveling and getting geared up. People don't whine about it being hard to find a fight with so many channels and places to level...
Not to mention when instanced BG's come out and reward pvp gear, poor pvpers obviously had harder BG's to compete in, so getting that shiney top pvp gear was so much harder then pve players who participated in BG's.
Sarcasm aside, best bet is to reroll on a PvP server. There's probably never going to be switching as long as pvp'ers can whine and throw their subscriptions around... because things being "unfair" isn't the sign of a carebear.
My understanding is that it has nothing to do with gear, and more to do with being able to get to max level unmolested, then switching when you're harder to grief. If that were possible, a lot of people would level on PvE, then switch.

Mind showing where exactly "it's been stated"? Because it sounds so me like you've just providing false information.
Also, what is this "compete for gear" that you speak of? Last time I checked sitting in town and using the LFG tool hardly fits that description.
As far as the topic is concerned, it would be silly of them not to add that feature in the near future, sure some people might cry a little, but at the end of the day giving players options is always a good thing.

That may be true, but honestly I wonder who really cares where or how someone leveled. (Gonna guess, and not direct at you, that it's really only a problem for those who wanna feel superior for "doing it the hard way.") Not to mention what the post quoted below says.
I think alot of people don't even consider pvp started till level 60, in which case the few odd Open world fights before that are pointless.

I wondered the same where it had been stated, not to mention if anyone is a tank or has a tank friend, there are so many ways to simply level up from a safe zone for -most- of your characters life. That seems really pvp epic.
That's outright laughable. "oh you can't switch to pvp from pve and get a free ride from ganking, you have to go through the 'rite of passage' of being on the pvp server to deserve anything"
That may be true, but honestly I wonder who really cares where or how someone leveled.
Well, it matters because it unbalances server populations. People will level 1-60 on PvE servers, so they will have a robust population for grouping. But then as the 60's transfer out to PvP, the number of people left for endgame on PvE crashes.
Meanwhile, if you want the cred of "doing it the hard way" on a PvP server, you have no one to group with because most people are leveling on PvE. But you run into level 60's everywhere. Even if only a fraction of them feel like ganking you for the lulz, it's probably enough to make you wonder why you are putting up with the additional difficulty, when you can't get a same level group for any BAM quests on top of it.

The assumption of course, is that everyone will use PvE servers to level, despite many pvp'ers enjoying the thrill of PvP while leveling. This also assumes guilds won't play a factor in people's leveling, serving to ward off the Lulz griefers. While I understand a certian "potential" for unfairness if transfers were free from server type to server type, there is also the current unfairness of restricting the choices people have when they decide their server is no longer serving their needs.
Quite frankly, with enough players and the macho-ness that comes from "leveling on a pvp server" this would really be a non-issue.
Edit: Just spotted another assumption, which is that everyone on a PvE server would only be doing so to jump ship for 60's pvp. This is simply not true, as PvE servers maintain themselves without those who want to PvP already. Not to mention the cross server LFD tool and the role guilds play in keeping people rooted on a server.
Second Edit: On a side note, could it not be possible to add other incentives to remain on your "server type?" For example, perhaps an achievement for leveling from 1-50 on a pvp server could garner a decent pvp reward, that does not transfer with your character. Sort of a "Bound to Server" item. Just a thought.
