PvP - And the main issue so far

My friends and I are looking at this game, in the hopes that it goes in a direction back towards a hardcore mmo.

The one thing that we have found during the beta, playing on a pvp server, is that there is still really no balance for players who are leveling vs those who are capped in the questing areas.

You will get those who will say that a lvl 27 attacking and slaughtering a lvl 12 in 2 hits is pvp. I disagree. This is not what pvp was meant to be. PvP is about pitting your skills with your class against the skills of the player you are fighting, using the mechanics of your character to it's fullest potential, and of course, on occasion getting very lucky.

Everquest 2 had the right idea for open world pvp combat in it's games, and I think that the outlaw system has the right idea but needs a polish. What needs to be changed is that there need to be bracket ranges for pvp in open world. For example:

Players 11 - 16 are the only ones that can attack each other in open pvp world scenarios. If they chose to toggle the outlaw option, then they can be attacked by any level.

And so on for the brackets until cap. This is not meant to say i don't enjoy pvp as i do, but i do not seriously see how a cap level, in this case a 27 attacking a 12 is pvp. I truly don't. Anyone who argues that this is pvp, is merely enjoying the fact and enjoying strokin their pud over the fact they can 2 shot someone, instead of being faced with a real challenge.

Right now if you get bored of being ganked, you just switch channels, and keep channel hoping. I don't think this is what the dev's intended either, and if you have players doing that then that should be an indication that there might need to be some kind of bracket or level capping to curb the ganking from maxed level players over low levels.

Hope dev's take a look at this....otherwise fully enjoying the game thus far.

Being on a pvp server forfeits our right to complain about being ganked by high level people. Everyone knew people were going to get to 27 then gank lowbies like mad but it's not going to be as big of a problem on release. It's only this way because of beta and doesn't mean there is a flaw in that kind of pvp freedom.

There are just two major things as to why there is so much ganking and that is it's a new game so of course people are going to be pvp/gank crazy early on and that there is nothing else for them to do.

Perhaps they should..(just for the beta) prevent attacking someone more than 10 levels below you but for release nah. People on a pvp server know full well that there ARE people out there who just want to gank all day, they know full well they are going to get ganked at some point in the game. It's something we know full well can and will happen.

On release, there will be battlegrounds and dungeons to occupy peoples time and there won't be nearly as many gankings. We will have friends and possibly alts that can come take care of problem gankers.

nice to see your reasoning why they shouldn't. You must be one of those players sitting at cap attacking the lvl 12's....

Don't mind seeing someone disagree, but perhaps you could articulate your reasons for why you do not agree with what was posted. Perhaps you can only use small words, similar to the wow player base..

I think that open world PvP need To Be free for all to make a good hardcore MMO.

Many things need to be in the gameplay to have a good Mmo. I think that a good Mmo is base on the best community possible through all the guild, the server, and the forum.

Ganking PK's etc.. bring alot of drama. Drama is an important part of a mmo. More the game is dangerous to play throught, the more you will NEED an escort, or team up with other players. This is playing in team that creates bonds of friendship, not soloing. I have often seen large pvp battles, began with a story of some random guildies beeing ganking, and the whole guild came to help him...

Long process lvling is important in the game. More time it take to lvl cap, more time We have to play, lvl, and dungeon togheter. This allows us to create community to our teammates, and the guild.

I do not want to go farther on the subject because other players did, and we find big number of thread on what it takes to make a good "MMO REAL HARDCORE", like the OP state. But still, FFA PVP is one important thing.

Sorry but that is BS. There is nothing "hardcore" for a high level ganging low level. Maybe you misunderstand the definition of "Hardcore". Hardcore means having a high degree of challenge and being unforgiving to mistakes and sloppines. Hardcore DOES NOT mean allowing for fights where there is a 0% chance of winning. As a hardcore gamer myself, I call that stupid not Hardcore.

Erm, you must have missed the part where leveling MMOs like Tera discourage grouping. Good luck finding people with the exact same quests as you. Even when you play with friends, at some point you will ussually either bypass them or leave them behind while leveling. You must be thinking of games like GW2 and TSW where leveling is not that imporant (or or missing altogether) so its easy to do questing with friends or guildies. Tera is not like that at all. It followes the age old formula of single player MMO while leveling.

No its not. Again having fights that you cannot win or cannot lose it stupid for any game in any setting. Truly hardcore games discourage abusive PvP and encourange players to PvP with other players of equal power.

Completely disagree.

Once the game is released, this problem will not occur that often. Right now, at lvl 27, there is not much to do as there is at end game.

Everyone will be too busy to go around killing noobies. There's GvG, theres BAMing, theres high end dungeons, there's political stuff, theres battlegrounds.

A lvl 58 isnt going to camp a lvl 20 because they are "bored".........

I think the main problem with pvp right now in open world is the penalty. there is no penalty for just going on a noobie killing spree. Even if you kill 10000 noobs and u die. u dont lose much. so u go right back to doing it.

i believe the best system that tera could learn from is the lineage 2 open world pvp system. If ppl went "outlaw" on lineage 2, if u die. u have a chance to lose the gear ur wearing. so u dont want to "outlaw" if u dont have to.

of course the syste was pretty differnet in lineage 2, but I'm just saying, theres not enuf of a risk/reward balance for killing someone. Theres not enough of a penalty that may be placed on someone for "murdering" someone else
