Regarding LFG "Fix"

I sincerely hope you guys considered adding the same time limit to the Trade channel, otherwise this change is going to do quite literally nothing.

This change honestly just makes no sense to me. Clearly most people want a global chat channel, as opposed to area chat. If they do not have a global chat channel, area chat goes to [filtered]. You're deflecting from the issue rather than dealing with the heart of it.

My suggestion:

1) Make a Global chat channel that is disabled by default, and make both LFG and Trade disabled by default. Add a flashing element to the chat window upon entering the game that gives a brief explanation of how to join the non-default chat channels.

2) ???

3) Profit.

P.S.: I do not use LFG at all because it's crap. After this change, I won't be able to use Trade at all, because it will be crap. I also will probably not be able to use Area chat in most areas.

Remember Island of Dawn at release?

You can not stop the trolls. You can, however, give them their own territory to congregate.

Well I think they figure Trade is expendable.. people don't care too much about buying and selling as there is a broker, they care more about finding groups for things. So turn Trade off use LFG for it's intended purposes, use the broker.

Honestly I've never used a trade channel to buy or sell anything in an MMO, I don't know why it's there at all.

But perhaps they should impose the same limit on Trade and open a global chat up for the hooligans that the rest of us can turn on or off at our leisure.

Call it [Global] Nub Chat:

I use Trade quite a lot, admittedly not for its intended purpose. On DF at least, there is a small group of people that tend to use trade chat as their global chat, it's just not enabled by default, and as such is not overrun with trolls.

People do, however, effectively use this channel to buy/sell things. Broker is cool, but I prefer use channels for trading stuff.

Huzzah.

I'm not against a global channel for the people who want to chat more than play...and who feel compelled to share their every primitive thought...nonstop...for 8 straight hours...daily. There seem to be about 20 such people who are like in a fan club of worshipping each other on my server, with maybe 20 more hangers on who wannabe "cool" too.

Let them have a global channel that everyone else can disable.

It's just annoying when LFG is that channel and you feel like your IQ is dropping when you have to endure the idiocy while looking for a group.

Trade is only useful If you're looking for a crafted item. Everything else is going to be at the broaker.

I concur that there should be a global channel specifically for chatting though.

I do have to admit though, there's been only one or two Slumber Jackets on the market on DF for the past week or so listed at 10k, and I see them sell for 5-7.5k in trade chat all the time. Missed opportunities. :p

I Personally am against any kind of global chat as I come from an age where global chatting was for the elite only. interactions between players were more personal, and random. and the community learned to shut their damn mouth.

As far as I'm concerned I would not allow anything but an automated global chat systme, where you can input level, and request what you want a party for. all button based. so nothing can be said like "Suck my ____" or "_____ people are the scum of the earth"

I can understand this, however, I like it when the company that develops the game that I play makes money. :p

It is my belief that the best fix, with the least amount of effort, would just be to create a gobal channel for troll spew. A channel that can be disabled by any who find it to be undesirable.

People like options. Options allow things to cater to everyone simultaneously, whereas being forced down a set path tends to divide people.
