Also note that skills also level up, which sets them to have new tiers of damage, which is what calculates damage. it works this way in most if not all MMORPGS, a bottom tier 6 items vs a bottom tier 7 will have a huge difference. And I don't just mean 100 damage, the difference is in the THOUSANDS, to your atk modifier. That isn't level that is item.

Uh, no it isn't.

Do that in WoW or SWTOR and that's DEFINITELY not the case.

My smite spell does the same amount of damage to a level 1 critter as it does to a level 85 in WoW.

In Tera, my divine radiance does ~300 damage to an even level. It does +500,000 damage to a level 1.

Do the math.

If this is true, it needs to go for best possible pvp enjoyment.

Edit: Even if it is gear scaling, the scaling is insane.

Its not level, its gear related. Ask an equal level friend to take his gear off then hit him once and prepare to one shot him with almost any skill. Even 10 insignificant extra points in defense makes a noticeable difference in damage received.

MMORPGs are based on character progression, if i wanted to play a game where my play time in it made no difference and the efforts i put in developing my character are almost pointless i would be playing Battlefield 3 or Guild Wars 1/2.

See that's just it...

Gear makes a difference in EVERY MMO.

Tera is just the only MMO I've seen where gear scales EXPONENTIALLY, which means gear makes FAR more of a difference than skill.

Its fine the way it is, stop trying to americanise an asian mmo.

You'll just end up with a toned down boring system.
There is a massive amount of fun in trying to kill someone x-lvls higher knowing they could potentially wreck you.
Its called skill.

ALL asian mmo's are made this way, and honestly in my 12+ years of playing games I have NEVER had as much fun on an american mmo as i do on asian ones with this system.
And thats not doing the whole lowbie killing thing, thats from the real challenge of facing odds, not "oh hey we have 10 noobs who can roll this dude".

10 noobs should get face rolled by someone 10 lvls higher, its called character progression.

No, it's a lame excuse for character progression. With a decent system you can still kill 10 noobs but not with 50000 crits.

This has nothing to do with westernization.

I agree 1000000000000%. I know its not possible, but i just hate defense multipliers that much. It is not very fun to be stoped from fighting mobs or players simple because they are a few levels above you.

I know it is too late to change anything, but the corrent way to implement a game is just to have the mobs hit more and be tougher in higher levels enough that people would not be able to skip large quanties of content. I like how in TSW there is not going to be a huge difference between levels. They are doing it right, why not Tera?

Actually WoW had a differnt system. If you tried to fight mobs at a relatively higher level, many to most of your attacks would miss. It kinda of like a defense modifier like Tera's but works a little different. Same terrible idea though.

I personally dont see a problem for a skillful lower level to be able to handle a little bit higher level content. I think developers in MMOs have gone the Drama Queen way and over-react to this issue.

Its not purely gear, though a large part is.

See http://tera-forums.enmasse.com/forums/player-vs-player/topics/Artificial-Level-scaling-still-ruining-OWPvP-17383?page=1

Its a combo of the scaling used to enforce 'You shouldn't be in this zone' in PvE getting modified by gear.
