Its fine the way it is, stop trying to americanise an asian mmo.

You'll just end up with a toned down boring system.
There is a massive amount of fun in trying to kill someone x-lvls higher knowing they could potentially wreck you.
Its called skill.

ALL asian mmo's are made this way, and honestly in my 12+ years of playing games I have NEVER had as much fun on an american mmo as i do on asian ones with this system.
And thats not doing the whole lowbie killing thing, thats from the real challenge of facing odds, not "oh hey we have 10 noobs who can roll this dude".

10 noobs should get face rolled by someone 10 lvls higher, its called character progression.

No, it's a lame excuse for character progression. With a decent system you can still kill 10 noobs but not with 50000 crits.

Years ago i played a game (eastern) and i met a dude in the middle of nowhere in pvp, 8 lvls above me, needless to say he wrecked me, i tried for months to kill him, that turned into years, and eventually i did.
The only thing that let me beat him wanst lvls or better gear, it was learning to play better.

In every single mmo I have played since killing someone that many lvls above was easy, go to AH - buy epic loots - return - faceroll.

^ that is boring, and devoid of skill.

Different games, In Tera you can get one shotted for being 8 lvl under.
You wanna tell me how to counter that without the player being afk or suck hardcore, scrap the last part no1 can be that bad.

Have you even tried Tera or are you just defending it for the sake of not wanting "Westernization"?
Which it is not, but you seem to believe so.

Guaranteed 1-shot kills with a 3-4 level advantage makes the game MORE boring

Except for Aion and Lineage, neither of which did it this way.

You could take someone in Aion who was 10 levels above you if you had 3-4 players...

How much research did you do on this?

Research.

Both games changed for the western market.
Which toned both of them down.

Sub numbers eastVSwest on the two vastly different builds of the game speak for themselves.

It's clear now, DarkExile is one of those extreme anti-"westernization" people, that see every change as a westernization for worse.

No, im against toning a game down to pathetic WoW clone levels because people devoid of skill that are used to being handed everything cant learn to play.

After years of watching great mmo's sink into the ground because people flame the forums with "That class is op, nerf this nerf that" crap, it gets a little tiring.
But above all you only ever notice it on games from the states.

WoW, Rift, TOR just sank like a brick for the very same reason.

No, they didn't.

Aion was still a grindy PoS and they did not TOUCH anything in Lineage except the text.

We're talking about exponential stat scaling, which is absolutely unique to Tera from ALL of my MMO experience...

And again, stat scaling means stats >>>>>>> skill, which is the very OPPOSITE of what Tera is supposed to be about. :P

WoW is doing fine with 10 million subs.

Rift is doing fine with ~300k subs. They're still making money and releasing new content. Certainly not "sinking" by any stretch of the word.

SWTOR? Not sure.

Players asking to have ridiculous damage/defense scaling tweaked/removed to make the game more dependent on the skill (mental dexterity and eye-hand coordination) of the player itself is not the same thing as people asking to have everything handed to them for refusing to learn how to play: if anything, it's the exact opposite.

Tera is stylized and advertised as a skill-based game, with true action combat. "Learning to play" in this kind of game isn't about learning how to exploit numbers like in tab-targetting MMOs. Here, it should be more about knowing how to time attacks and how to maneuver, and how to adapt.

Having any type of numeric calculations is one thing, and expected. However, having modifiers/numbers that - based on your disparity of level - allows you to absorb damage from anything 3 levels lower than you without any damage, or decimate something 3 levels lower than you with one or two presses of a hotkey is a highly flawed game design that makes this game like any other: a game of rolling numbers and nothing more.
