I'll cut right to the chase. A rumor has come to my attention, flopping on my desk like a freshly cough carp that. Despite all the hype and flare TERA may in fact tank do to:

Update's taking a year to roll out..
Potential risk of bankruptcy, in the short term.. (before beta is finished)
Potential game fixes, not being done on a regular (weakly) basis.

To name a few. Only thing that is holding me from getting pre order is this. Considering i ended my TOR sub and next MMO after TERA being on the scheduled for end of this year. I would love to play this game but i need those 3 things addressed before i reach for my CC..

So... you're worried about a RUMOR of a POSSIBLE problem that hasn't come up yet?

You don't have much else going on do ya? All worried about [filtered] that aint a problem yet and all that.

Since the game isn't out until May 1st so I'd propose you:

A) Wait until after that and listen to player feedback and overall mood for a month or two.
B) Go through the dev blogs and news letters to get a feel for what their plans are.

We can all tell you want you do or don't want to hear but honestly none of us can say for certain until we've been given first hand experience. I'm not going to falsely hype something for you though.

1) Game is not out yet. We don't know how long updates will take.

2) This one just sounds like bull[filtered].

3) Incase you're new to MMOs, let me tell you that most companies do not put out "weekly" fixes for their games. It does happen but I was not aware this needed to b.e a feature.

If these are the things keeping you from trying out and enjoying the game, you might want go play console games.

Amen.

We have to remember that Tera is a Korean import, and as with 90% of Korean imports, updates are based on the connection between to two companies. In all honesty, I've already prepared myself for limited updates.

But in Truth, I feel that Tera has the potential to change the MMO genre drastically. And because of that, I plan to help support her financially - to ensure a steady cash flow and healthy game environment.

Because that's ultimately what will make it succeed and leave its mark. Dedicated players that see the awesomeness it brings.

Definitely not new to MMO's (14 years), and weekly game fixes for a new game are not a feature, however any new game tends to be a little off balance. So where my question arises is on what interval would the game get polishing where needed.

How long do updates in KTERA take? I guess that's a best way of ball parking an average from update to the next.. As for (2) i do believe that one popped up after the law suit was made public early Jan.

I actually had very excellent download rates when installing the launcher.
Was at over 4 mb/s~

(Granted, my internet speed goes up to 30+ mb/s, but I'm used to servers only allowing downloading at around 400~500 kb/s, hehe..)

Yeah..... don't take this the wrong way, but if things like that are keeping you from pre-ordering then you just probably wait for launch.

Update time frame is completely dependent on man hours and how men/women they have to throw at it. Which is consequently related to finances which affects their ability to hire more employees to throw at previously said updates. Which is also related to how quickly game fixes are found with problem areas in the code and how well QA tests the project. Consequently all of this is affected by the community contributing both financial and intellectually.
