It appears to me that from every korean MMO that has ever been made, the exact same flaws hit the US, and kill the game. This game is no different. As with many others, I have been playing these types of games for decades, so to judge good from bad has become a science rather than an opinion.
Soloable class balance is horrendously bad. One class takes down a baddy in 5 minutes, the next in 10 minutes and the next in 20 minutes. BTW, nothing in these games besides a dungeon boss or a world boss should ever take 20 minutes to solo.
Did I mention lack of balance, that is because there is nothing compelling about the distinct classes within this game. Let me explain. For a good MMO, There has to be a factor that says "Oh hell yeah, That is so bad [filtered]!!!!" that compels you to want to play a class. Generally this power or ability would be considered OVERPOWERED, what ever it is. But each class would get one or two and would make that class unique and compelling. This game has nearly none of that. 1 or 2 abilities within the game are compelling, but outside of that the game has no variety and nearly no "Oh god thats awesome" factor.
For instance, A slayer or a bezerker's early damage is HUGE, and overpowering, GREAT good, that means that these classes have provided a compelling reason to play them...Except that their attack abilities are extremely similar that you probably will only play one or the other.
So lets look at the other classes one by one:
A lancer... uhmmm a zerker does significantly more damage, and can block the entire attacks of mobs as well, and a lancers damage is so significantly low it literally takes an eon to kill a mob... so nah.
An archer.... early damage doesn't compare to a slayer or bezerker. Animations are just ok, as a matter of fact actually the animations are lame. The class is not a real ranged class, and will be in melee range in no time, while constantly avoiding this with a jump back that gives about 2 seconds more time than if you had just taken the hit. Again, nothing overpowered pure mediocre, and utterly vanilla.
The priest, the auto attack does as much damage as the triple threat attacks, if not more due to the poor animation time on the 3rd ability. Animations are cool, and the ball spell (shock) works great... but has a 12-15 second cool down, which limits your fun to one time every 12-15 seconds, if you can bear it. The class wears crap armor, and can be one shotted easily for any mistake, but is forced into melee range, or has utter crap ranged damage. Again, no compelling reason to play the character, nothing that says "Oh hell yeah lets play a priest in this game! because it is way better than another game." Actually it is really bad compared to other games.
The sorcerer is literally the worst caster class I have ever seen in any game I have ever played. Just name ANY popular mmo from the last decade and it is 10000000 times more interesting than throwing molotov cocktails, and getting face blasted. Or how you can even consider highlight targetting a character, throwing away the actual game mechanic that TERA is supposed to be about. Limiting its range to practicially melee, and worst of all, just utterly not being interesting at all. I would take literally ANY caster class from AION, Everquest, WOW, Rift, Asherons Call, Dark Age of Camelot, or even a side scroller console game over this sorry excuse for a sorcerer class. Honestly, you didn't even try. Of any class in a game the casters have the widest variety of possibiltiies you can use. WOW's popularity came from replayability of the classes with multiple play styles and possibilities. There is no possibilities here, it is just hit these 4 buttons and when this happens hit button 5. I could care less about the buttons because they are on such strict timers that I don't even need to know their order, You just press the one that is not on refresh, or if you are being attacked, hit the other one. Come on. I have played games where a mage of one type could solo a room of 50 mobs at the same time, if they were patient and had some skill. Others where 1 type of mage was completely different than the other, many of these didn't even have the damage abilities being the most important feature, but the ability to alter the circumstances of the fight through a debuff like SLOW, snare, cripple, charm, dot, fear, stun, or Pet attack before a single nuke was ever cast. Oh,no, not here. Hit these 4 buttons.
I won't go into the mystic, I have friends that play him and he suffers from the same problems.
Again the warrior is blah.
So lets talk about the true cause of Korean Games failing. They always focus on the Graphics and Animation, sometimes having interesting content and sometimes not, and always ALWAYS having no imagination on the possibilties of combat for a single class much less an entire game. I have played them all, and they alway suck. Until you can offer 5 different ways to kill a single mob on one class using entirely different tactics and spell/skill rotations, Korean games will always be hit these 4 button grind machines. Blizzard destroys your variety, and even outdoes its variety in the original Diablo, heaven forbid we talk about Diablo II because you could not even begin to consider its possibilities.
You got my $50. So there, I have supported your learning effort, but next time you want to create a game, at least play a few others that are successful first to get some ideas.
