I knew it would be just a matter of time before the "raiders" entered the discussion lol
I'm in the "fluff" group. I want more "fluff."
More housing, better crafting, remodeling, RP-friendly features, animations, convenient grouping tools, music, etc. In short, look to Mabinogi and add some of the features they have in that game. Doing so would make Tera truly epic.
Lol go play WoW for that carebear stuff. What company in the right mind would waste such a great combat system solely on PvE and cosmetics. You PvE carebears destroy every PvP game that is released and you guys won't stop til all PvP is wiped out of existence
You guys and gals realize the highest forms for selling gaming media in the west are FPS competitive shooters right?
Love it or hate it competitive PVP is a huge part of what the consumer base wants. PC or Console. There will always be a place for PVE content of course...but no Dev team on the planet can keep up with the 35 year old who lives in his mothers basement powering through all content in a week.
Improvised player based content will always have more longevity than themepark constructs. Long after we all get 100% in Skyrim people will still be playing Counter Strike.
Deal with it (North) America.
P.S. I love both...but I am also realistic in what keeps people playing long term having been an MMOer since EQ1 (yes MMOs existed before WoW)

Except that people don't purchase an MMO expecting an FPS inside. Yes, FPS are the highest selling genre - but that doesnt mean trying to shoehorn it into other genres is going to result in a winning formula.
I've played MMOs since Ultima, EQ, and Asheron's Call.. I miss the days before mindless pvp was shoehorned into every mmo. It existed, but it had real consequences and a purpose in the ingame world.. not the mindless instanced battle royales that serve no logical purpose that gets shoved into each new game in the form of arenas and bgs.
PVE 80%, PVP 20%. PVP is the mashed potatoes of Tera. It makes for a nice diversion but lacks richness and balance. PVE is the steak, and it needs to keep improving if people are gonna order from En Masse.
See I would have thought PvP was the steak, while questing was the potatoes and dungeons are the gravy.
PvP done right doesn't take anything new, development is done all up front as a one time shot. PvE needs to be redone because people get bored with the current dungeons.
If in PvP they did the Vanarch system well, then PvP/GvG/OWPvP would be all a player needs for years to come. Why? Because there are so many guilds that provide differences. Too much to discuss here, but I'm paying for more PvP!

Lol go play *Call of Duty/APB/Battleflied or any other of the myriad of FPS games* for that FFA Gankfest stuff. What company in the right mind would waste such a graphically detailed and expansive world solely on PvP. You PvP gankers destroy every PvE game that is released and you guys won't stop til all PvE is wiped out of existence.
See what I did there?
It can go both ways, can't it?
Anyways, yes I am a carebear and I am not ashamed at all to admit it. Actually, I like that title. It's cute :)
Despite the fact that PvPers use it as some sort of insult.
Anyways, like Niia above says, just because PvP is popular in FPS games doesn't mean that it has to infiltrate every other game genre. As mentioned before, there are many excellent FPS games that PvPers can play without having to come into the MMORPG genre and demand that those games also be turned into FFA PvP/FPS styled gankfests.
Having said that, I am not advocating that Tera not have PvP. In Tera, there is PvP in PvE servers too. Only, it is more controlled and structured, and that is the way that many PvE fans like it. That is the point that many PvEers are making. That fans of both genres should compromise and meet somewhere in the middle. Apparently, judging by the trend of this thread, PvPers don;t even want that. They want it all. But why am i surprised *sigh*

Then why even bother going on this thread if only PvP Servers would be benefiting from improved PvP.
And FPS isn't the cream of the crop for pvp lovers, that's just stereotypical. OWPvP is enjoyable because it's war like, fighting for territory and to show off your PVE accomplishments as well as PvP skills especially with this combat system. How fun would a game be to mindlessly farm dungeons and gold to get the best gear and just hang out in town talking?
Like many MMOs on the market, TERA seems to be trying to capture both the PvE and PvP markets. Most likely out of greed. Use a net, not a hook, right?
But is this the right strategy for a subscription based MMO?
Oh.. and my vote is PvP. :)
In a game like Tera or the majority of other MMORPGs, the game is 95% PvE. PvP is a slapped on afterthought with zero integration into the rest of the game. Other than fun, if you're into grief, there is no point to the PvP at all.
You have leveling, crafting, dungeons, and all that, usually more in more robust MMORPGs, and it's all PvE stuff. Slap on PvP so you can gank and grief each other. Wow, that is SO compelling.
If there was no PvE focus, there would be no reason to play the game...might as well be playing online FPS, except most of the grief-oriented pseudo PvPers couldn't handle a situation where there was balance, equality, and competition since they'd rather be griefing or ganking, something that isn't really PvP at all, it's just garbage.

The point being that Tera, at its core, is an PvE MMORPG game with active style combat. Yes the combat works well for PvP but that does not take away the fact that its an MMORPG. The key words in that acronym are ROLE PLAYING GAME. You don't see PvEers going to Call of Duty/Battlefield/APB etc forums demanding that they increase the focus of PvE content in those games do you?
I love Tera. Me and my friends have tried playing other games such as WoW but we could never really get into those games. Tera, with the beautiful graphics, casual-friendly play mechanics, and chic fashion sense, is the only video game me and my friends have really enjoyed. Please don't ruin it.
Dragon Nest has combat similar to Tera except PvPing in DN is much polished and exciting.
Nothing in Dragon Nest is exciting.
I liked Dragon Nest's PvP a lot, I would say that it was definitely exciting; The PvE and the cash shop is what made me quite (but mostly the cash shop because I didn't like that they were putting stats on vanity items, the protection jellies were useless for their price, stamps for EVRYTHING, etc.).
Personally, I think that games need both PvE and PvP. As long as they keep the PvP balanced and competitive and NOT based on gear (Seriously, gear just ruins the competitiveness of it and is a PvE thing; having an alternative way to obtain gear for PvE? Okay, but making it so you have to grind two separate sets for each one gets annoying and makes games even more grindy than ever... especially if they are constantly adding new gear that makes older gear obsolete.. I could write a book on this, so I won't go into it any further).
Some people have mentioned FPS games and how MMO's should take a page or two from them for PvP, which I agree with for some things. MMO's should take note of some things from FPS's notably their sense of progression; instead of leveling and growing more powerful, you unlock perks, weapons and equipment that give slight benefits in certain areas (like a faster firing gun that might be slightly less powerful and less accurate, or a more accurate gun, etc.). Point is that the gear/perks give an edge in different areas, but are never really more powerful than previously unlocked gear and perks; they compliment the play style.
FPS's also offer great matchmaking systems and a variety of game modes for different objectives, which is definitely something that needs to be copied/transitioned better to MMO PvP.
One thing that TERA NEEDS is objective based open world PvP mostly for GvG. They need to add points in most of the areas that guilds can fight for and fight to hold onto while they have enough man power and skilled players to hold onto it (cause people do log off or have other things to do lol). These could offer benefits to the guilds that hold onto them like better areas for gathering crafting materials, maybe a small perk for being in the area that your guild has conquered (like a small speed buff or attack speed buff of around 2-3%), etc. It would be nice if they had a variety of places to capture ranging from castles to barricaded areas to mansions.
In whatever case at the moment TERA definitely should get some more PvP content (besides the BG's which while I want them, need some definite improvements from the looks of them). We have a decent amount of PvE content already and more to come that just needs to be localized.

Lol because a couple of girls wanting to play dress up is more important than the majority of competitive mmo players right? MMORPG lost its meanings ages ago. No MMO is successful without PVP and this is quite obvious. And LOL are you dense? PVE in FPS? you know what FPS is right? MMORPG always had PVP l2deal with it
PS. Graphics and cosmetics are icing on the cake, farming for top tier gear and competitive PVP is what end game MMO is. Stop being narrow minded already
