I'd been planning to pick up TERA this weekend, largely because of its skill-based gameplay promises. However, I was informed today that archers, sorcs, etc. have a soft aiming system.
Would someone mind verifying this for me? Bit of a deal-breaker.
If you mean that you cant "lock on" and just fire away then yes, 90% of the time you will "soft aim". It is taking some getting used to for me as well.

Thanks.
"This is called "soft aim" and it's how the Cabalist and Templar shoot. Their targeting dot locks on if they point near the monster, and the skill in shooting for those characters is in positioning themselves so the monster remains in the firing line. Shooting slow bullets at a fast-moving target will result in lots of misses, even if your target was locked on when you pulled the trigger.
I googled and that's all I could find. Is that what soft aiming is?
If so there isn't any way to lock-on to a target. There are "lock-on" skills in which you press the button, scroll over enemies/allies you wish to target(they will glow green), and then press the button again to fire off the skill. These "home" on the target, but in PvP can be dodged by actions like Evasive Roll from Slayer or Warrior.
Most of Archer's skills are aimed, like a FPS. Most of the sorc skills are aimed, like an FPS, or have a set distance in which they attack(I believe Fire Blast puts a 5m circle 8m ahead of you, Magma Bomb is a 3m blast 9m in front of you, etc).
Sorry - should've been more specific. Soft aiming refers to the leniency of a targeting system. Most PC FPS' don't have a soft aiming system: if your reticle's off target by even a little bit, you're going to miss your shot. Many console FPS' and PC RPG's, however, employ a system whereby your reticle needs be only near your target. If you're off by a little bit, the shot will still hit.
Basically it's the difference between pinpoint aim and "in the general vicinity". The comments in this youtube video are what got me worried: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDpQ1vMc92o
