I'm writing this on behalf of my wife who tried out the demo. To say she was completely frustrated by it and will probably never play Tera is a bit of an understatement. Many of you will say good riddance, but you are completely wrong. We need more players in this game. We don't need to scare them away but throwing them into to that ridiculous prologue. My god, give them access to something beautiful (Island of Dawn) and let them play around for a while. Let them have fun not make them completely frustrated with an unmanagable character in a dark dingy world.
Worlds don't sell MMO's. Mechanics do. If she wasn't hooked by the combat, all the flashy art in the world isn't gonna keep her paying a sub.
So yea good riddance.
What was frustrating about it? Perhaps she just didn't understand something, and we can help clarify? Why did she find the character unmanageable? Feedback is good and all, but the "why" is really key.
I don't think "good riddance", but I do think it's silly to give up on a game because of a prologue. I do agree it needs work though, which is why perhaps some clarification might help. Then maybe it won't be frustrating?
I agree with the others that this could use some more elaboration.
However, I also feel the prologue does a very poor job of properly representing the game. IMO, letting them create an account limited to the island of Dawn and maybe a level 10ish cap would be a good way to let them get a taste of them game without giving them the whole serving.
Level 20 is a great introduction to the class mechanics and the combat system, and fighting a BAM is a great introduction to...fighting BAMs. What is the problem? The prologue is certainly a lot better than the Isle of Dawn.
the only criticism about the prologue i share is that you can not modify placement of skills on your bars. anything else is quite good to give you a glimpse at what Tera is about. Isle of Dawn is actually much more of a turn-off as it is so typical for any random f2p asian MMO. some bogus but pretty creatures you need to kill for no good reason, static and boring environments you can't really explore anyway, nothing about the story to catch your interest etc etc etc.
when i played the prologue i actually wished the whole game was built in that way - but then at the end of it you are just being dumped onto that lame isle :-/
tbh, with all due respect, i think your wife would probably complain that Karasha is way too hard for her as a casual gamer or something.
I'm not a fan of the Prologue, but didn't you ever let your wife play on your account?
I'm going to have to agree, I hate the prologue. For first timers it's easy to get disoriented with where to go. The fact that its dark is kind of jarring since you don't reach dark area's like that until the end of the game, the rest of the game is very bright for the most part in contrast. It doesn't add anything to the story. It throws you in with a bunch of skills that you have no idea what they do. Experienced gamers might mouse over the abilities but most don't.
It's also really boring. Talk to this npc, talk to that one, talk to that one, talk to this one. Oh look a flamboyant emo elf. Talk to that npc. "When do I hit stuff?" Here we go an instance. go straight, go up, go left go right, I see mobs but no pathway... oh break the wall. Its the flamboyant elf... he breaks a wall. Some people.. a sumo. black screen...now we're watching the island of dawn entry video. yay now I've wasted some time that could have been spent leveling up my actual toon. Who is inexplicably 20 levels weaker.
I played through it once. I skipped it on the rest of my alts. Imho the prologue shows me nothing. It's clunky and doesnt represent much of the game.
Alternatively I actually liked the isle of dawn enough to do it 8 times on all my alts.
