TERAble game community!

Now that I’ve had the chance to settle down and really get into playing Tera I have to admit my perspective of the game has changed quite a bit. I like the game play I like the looks of world the quest are boring as hell and get really old when leveling multiple characters but I hope it will pay off in the long run. Aside from these things what’s slowly changing my enjoyment of this game is your God awful moderation. The game is full of Trolls! It’s not one it’s not just a couple of instances but it occurs all the time! Every time you play this game you have to read some of the most explicit conversations in Area chat. Yesterday it was talk about performing cunnilingus on Elin. Today it was about which race has the hairiest [filtered]s. If you think that’s lewd, that’s PG 13 to the conversations people post that go into complete details. Then if it’s not something perverted it’s something racists or some internet meme/joke that every generic troll uses.

Over and over and over and over this goes on for hours also not to be missed by the trolling names you allow in your game. The other day I had the pleasure of meeting someone named “Superfuntits” which believe it or not is probably one of the least offensive names I’ve seen compared to the other stuff you allow people to generate in the create a character name section.

I have no idea what you people at Enmasse are doing but you need some serious GM’s and moderation on this game IN GAME and on the forums. The only way to get around these aholes is to turn of area chat completely. No one should have to go to that extent to escape the bombardment of trolls you allow to run rampant in this game. The most I’ve ever seen in this game as far as any attempt to filter out these people are “#######” over certain words. I have no idea what those words are because P*ssy,F*ck,F*ggot,Vag*na,and just about every other obscene and offensive word gets posted so what’s the point? I’m not even sure what word those #### marks could be filtering out because what ever it is, it can’t be more obscene than what does get posted.

Now if I honestly had known this game was going to have a community with the mentality of youtube I truthfully would not have had purchased it at all. I don’t care how much fun a game may be, when you have to deal with constant spamming and trolling in chat. It becomes an irritating experience rather than the fun experience it should be. You spend your time to make this fantasy game only to have the fantasy of it ruined by aholes.

Maybe I’m spoiled by games that have better communities/ moderation that Tera. For sure I know that in GuildWars when you spam or carry on like people do in your game YOU WILL BE BANNED! Matter of fact here is a clip for you to watch of just how people get banned. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lf5urf-QVzY&feature=related and that’s just for using profanity in a public chat channel even if chat allows it. Profanity, offensive names, spamming, etc. etc. all these people would be banned for 3 days minimum and if it’s consistent behavior eventually permanently. Since the moderation is so good in that game it actual has a mature and pleasant community to play in.

I don’t get what’s so difficult about creating a decent atmosphere to match your game? Right now playing this game is like driving a Ferrari through a Ghetto. You have to ride around with your windows rolled up and your hand on your cell phone with 911 on speed dial looking over every corner and around every turn. That’s how I feel playing this game as a mature player surrounded by trolls or just aholes with nothing better to do. I’ve completely avoided playing this game at night and in the evenings because that is peak trolling time.

When people ask me about this game or when I give reviews about it I tell them the truth. It’s a nice game but it has a community that’s on par with Youtube. So I’m telling you, if you want people to ruin your game it’s working. I didn’t complain about the Queue issues, the d/c’s, server problems, FFffff:fffffff errors, or sub not found errors, or customer service wait times even though I experience all of those because I know those are temporary issues that can be fixed and will eventually go away BUT, this community problem is not a problem that just goes away, this is a Reputation that your game is slowly developing and once you get that reputation it doesn’t just vanish it sticks.

If you want to be known as the decent game with the Terable community it’s certainly in progress. Now I loved this game at first but I can honestly say that for myself at least that feeling has been dwindling thanks to the in game nonsense that you allow. I’m not sure if I do want to spend my time playing this game especially when I’m paying for it, if I have to restrict myself so much just to enjoy the game as it is. Even now I play it less and less and less and it’s only been out for a week. As a mature player I look for mature games, if Tera isn’t that game I will move on and I noticed it hasn’t been only myself talking about your community but other players as well. In game and yes on these forums.

I don’t know what your company plans to do but I do hope whatever it is they do it soon.

i block every single person who says anything about alienware, wow being the first mmo, or being nasty, or annoying in general. id advise everyone else to do the same unless they actually enjoying partaking in those discussions. but for me it cleans up the chat and it lets look at area chat without being disgusted or annoyed.

The game is rated M, terms for certain things are considered mature vs. the other meanings for them. They cannot police every persons mannerisms. Its like trying to abolish cursing & profanity in real life, it wont ever happen. Its also early game... people with the more odd, unique.... names will be around longer, and after that who knows if they will renew their subscription, just report them & maybe they will be forced to namechange.

So what I am getting out of this is. You feel like text in an online game, (which it is 100% in your power as a player and a paying customer to block if you so wish) is hurting your feelings and changing your opinion about the game? Just use the ignore features that were implemented into this game for that exact reason.
There are going to be childish and immature people EVERYWHERE and in EVERY game. You can't expect the GM team to be on every person in every zone at all times.

Turn off area chat.

It's a MUCH better game once you do that.

You can thank me later. :)

I totally get what you are saying.

Sadly maturity is lost on people even in the forums.

The internet is filled with cowards who boost their ego by hiding behind their screen and ranting on anything they can attempt to come out as right at the other end or the better person.

Then you have all the other people trying to boost their ego's too.

It's rather sad, Ruins it for everyone.

^This! I always have a filtered chat specifically designed to keep out Area. Pop into general for a few posts to see if anyone wants to join a party, then pop out.

Yeah I actually have it in a tab of it's own in case I want some comedy relief or find myself looking for a BAM group. I can't imagine playing with it on in my main chat window...
