Tank Suggestion - Warriors and Queue

So here's my thought... feel free to yell at me, but I have this suggestion because I have no idea how else to cope.

So I just had a queue pop after waiting an hour and a half and I got in and there was no tank. We waited for about 15 minutes and then people dropped because the queue wasn't pulling in another tank (I did in fact activate the recruiting mechanism and all).

So, since warriors aren't counted as tanks, why not make it so that they can be? How? Well.. this may sound silly, but give them two stances. Defensive and offensive stance. In the defensive stance, give them more health, more abilities to generate aggression, and lower their damage output. In their offensive stance, more or less give them what they have now.

I feel like this could work. Either that or do something, like hire some GM's to play lancers and throw them into queues because this is just silly and troublesome. I have to wait ages, as do most others, except tanks. And that allows some of the tanks to act like elitist a-holes and refuse to run a group if there's a berserker or something and they had to share loot, or just be rude in general really.

In reality, it just stinks and is frustrating. That's all. This is just an attempt at a fix. Throwing an idea out there.

Personally, I just think that a dodging tank is setting the game up for complicated situations.

Yes, it can work, and it's been shown to work in the past, but you actually have to be GOOD to do it. At least half of the warrior 'tanks' I've ever run into didn't even realize they were supposed to avoid damage.

I have seen really good warrior tanks, that I have barely had to heal. Then I have seen really bad warrior tanks that I can barely keep up with because they think they are supposed to soak the damage.

I think if warrior tanks are to be more successful in this game there needs to be more emphasis on the fact that you aren't supposed to get hit. You aren't a lancer.

I understand. It's a hard gamble. Either wait for an easier tank with a lancer in longer queues, or have shorter queues and gamble with potentially bad tanks.

Let's throw in an option then. Allow warriors who queue to select their desired role as damage or tank, and if they select tank, they are going to have to tank. If they don't feel they can tank, then they select dps.

Sure, this could be abused by people who just want faster queues, but if there are more tanks who are warriors at least who are willing, at least that shortens up the queue for everyone a bit, right?

Either that or make some changes to warriors if you give them a defensive stance. Like make the roll into more of an evasive slide, give it a shorter cooldown, stuff like that. I don't know. There's got to be a way.

(None of this will change a thing I bet).

Warrior have a defensive stance.
People will abuse the system to get shorter queues.
Hell I have seen warrior tanks not even use threat gems and then get mad when everyone starts pulling aggro off him.

Overall I would rather wait the extra time and get at least a class that knows their roll instead of getting a gamble.

Yeah Warriors aren't that good at keeping aggro because their main pulling skill has a pretty short range and their shout doesn't pull aggro very well. Sure if you glyphed it maybe but I really don't like glyphing my skills for tanking. The only things I would say I've glyphed that could help tanking is the CD reset on the dodge and then the CD reduction on Death from Above (which I only glyphed because I had spare points and nothing was better). You could glyph for more defense on Defensive Stance and pull more aggro on your shout but I really don't think it's worth it. Now, if they made it so you could have two separate Glyph pages, then it would work and I would have an only tank glyph page, but honestly, having multiple glyph pages would be pretty unfair in my opinion so I would hope that does not happen.

Warriors work perfectly fine as tanks. A bad Lancer is going to be just as bad as a bad Warrior. That's all it comes down to... bad players are bad players. Bad players are able to hide more easily as Lancer, since they can just turtle. But when they do that, they lose aggro often.

Despite what the common player thinks, Warriors aren't meant to run around like a chicken with their head cut off. We have two evasion skills and 3-4 damage reduction skills. Good Warriors can keep mobs relatively still taking minimum to no damage. Death from Above jumps us straight up, no moving. And Evasion roll can be used in any direction (but most noob Warriors think it's only straight forward).

Finally, to the OP: We DO have an Assault stance and Defense stance. In fact, that's the name of the skills. With Tank glyphs, we have MORE defense than a Lancer when Defense stance is activated. But I think it would be a great idea that when you entered a queue, it should detect which stance the Warrior is in when he enters. Then queue him up for Tank or DPS role accordingly.

While that is a great idea I am sure some people will forget that and leave the wrong stance on and queue up. Panic and choas ensues.

Ahh, I suppose that's true.

But, apparently they are adding the ability for Warriors to queue as tanks in the next patch, so I guess the point is moot anyway, lol
