Now, I can say that my statement lacked proof of its veracity. I did not cite anyone showing an accounting of ArenaNet itself, or a subsidiary which can be traced to ArenaNet or its holding company. (I won't pretend that it's easy to create front companies that are held under alias names to finance trolls.) However, viral marketing is a real thing, and anti-viral marketing (or anti-marketing) is also a real thing. It's called "propaganda," and the forums are rife with it from GW2 fans. This is what is meant by ANet's "trolls" marketing TERA in an attempt to insult it's combat or scenery.
I don't pin this just to ANet, but to a whole range of forumgoers whose sole function seems to be to play to level 6, quit, whine, post on the forums their "honest" reviews of the game, or even skip out all of the intermediate steps and just post on the forums and lie. Can I prove the existence of the lie? No. But this does not diminish the existence of these folks. To argue for my point is futile, and to argue against it futile. I raised it for the sole purpose of spinning the thread back around toward a defense of the game in response to trolls whose purpose is to demonize the game.
So much /drama.
IN all seriousness, there are alot of people in the interwebz who believe that their
opinion is LAW!~.
These are the trolls who come by and see a new game and become intrested in.
But when it doesnt give them what they want, they just blast it with Negative votes/
Reviews/Demands and say the following: 'This game *****, it will fail and go F2P
with in XX month/days/hours.'
These are the people who under the table want to play the game without having
to pay for it. Others are just pretty much not gonna find any satisifaction in any
games or posts. So they just flame on until they can no longer care about a game.
These are the ones players who support a game THEY ALONE LIKE AND NOT
WHAT OTHERS THINK OF should just report the posts for spam/troll/gibberish.
Then find something else to Type about.
Side note: Some games have pretty badly failed to where it was stuck on F2P just to
survive. And within some of those games, the community that was once good just goes
strait to ******. Then eventually has to be shut down.
What makes me laugh more in this whole thing is that people treat the word "Opinion" as anything more then that word. Its a opinion, neither right nor wrong. Its someones base concept and not something you can TELL someone is wrong either. If someone thinks Tera is the best MMO they have played, what right do you have to say that its wrong considering its what THEY have played in years, not you. Some times, i scratch my head at some people.
For my opinion. Yea, i think Tera is the best I've played. The quests might be janky "Kill 10" stuff, the quest text so daft and the story so confusing sometimes. It might have some bugs right now that need fixing sooner rather then later and En Masse might of suddenly shut up so fast they must have mouth whiplash but the combat is solid, the sense of humor good, the graphics are wonderful, the art direction is spot on and very funny and i am willing for this to be the first MMO i pay for 12 months in because i see this game honestly improving and growing in leaps and bounds.
What most of the F2P people are really saying is that they do not want to pay for the game that they are playing and i think id have more respect for the argument they give if they had the fortitude to say so. Some have complaints and don't think its going to last, that would be them making guesses and that is fair enough though.
I do not expect this game to go F2P, but if it ever does, I will stop playing. Personally, I think this game is amazing and I am only level 39. I have enjoyed playing it since beta and I intend to play well past. We live in a "me" world now, that is why so many people are complaining about this game. In the last 10 years no MMO, in my opinion, has graphics that can even compete with Tera. This game is absolutely beautiful. And with this groundbreaking live action combat system, I hope this sets the tone for many future games. There are very few things that I would like to see changed in this game. But that is for another thread. Bottom line, people need to stop complaining and enjoy Tera for what it is.
Weird, I consider Tera a (great) pve game with some pvp elements (some of which aren't even implemented yet), and GW2 a pvp game with pve elements.
Tera has that unbalanced pvp in a pve world that people call ffa owpvp if they like that sort of thing or a gank-fest if they don't. At any rate it just allows you to attack people as you go about the task of a pve grind to level. GW2 is built from the ground up for pvp and also has a sort of side-mode pve story/questing thing, people have hyped it up, but the core of the game is its pvp.
