Tera = Grind? Stop racing to 60, read the story!

I have seen so many players on the forums and in game RUSHING to get to 60 as soon as possible. But why? I think a lot of players are missing out on Tera's best selling point: the storyline.

From all of the players I have spoken to, no one has read the quests or storylines. They "click and go." That is so boring, making the game a grindfest. If you don't actually know what you're doing in the game, why you're killing who you are killing, and the lore behind major characters in the game... you're not only missing out on on of Tera's best features, but you're spitting in the faces of those who bring great content and writing to the game.

Those people have poured hundreds of hours into putting this story together, whether through translations or new stories, and the lore is fantastic.

Once all of you who skip through the story quests, please go back and level an alt and READ the stories and quests. You will ultimately be surprised and you will enjoy the game a lot more. You'll understand great characters like Samuel, Jalena, the Valkyon Federation... Does any of this lore mean nothing to you?

I hope no one thinks I am trying to insult anyone, I just want players to understand the game's lore is all. It's been one of the most extensive stories I have seen in a game so far.

I am guilty of this - to be honest, I really hope that MMO's in the future as a standard, include voice dialogue - not just text - and maybe a few more cinematics - thanks to that, I was able to get into the story of many other games. Reading tiny text on the screen constantly gets frustrating.

Sometimes, I try to, then get bored :(.

Honestly TERA's cinematic and story is not appealing. I play to race to 60, otherwise I'll be studying. If I wanted story I'll play SWTOR or GW2 is it was out. TERA to me is about getting capped and then begin the march for dominance.

In case my first sentence came out wrong, I'm sure there's a nice story (for example I was slightly amused in the "conspiracy" portion with that dual sword hero), most of the cinematic feels redundant to watch and the dialogues sound corny. No offense intended.

While I wouldn't agree that Tera's best selling point is their storyline I do agree that this game is also about enjhoying your journey through the game.

What most "gamers" these days don't understand is that WoW's concept of "The Real game starts at end game" is really only a concept that is limited to WoW. Most MMOs aren't and have not been built this way in the past and should not be in the future.

For some reason it's so difficult for people to grasp that yes in WoW the end game is what's the most important, in fact the ONLY thing that is important. But that's WoW, and this is here and not the same game, not the same design not the same MMO.

Was EQ all about just end game? No. It was about the journey as well.
Was Lineage 1 all about end game? No.
Was DAoC about just end game? No.
UO? No.
Asheron's Call? No.
City of Villains, Heroes? No.
FFXI? No.
EQ2? No.
The Realm? No.
Anarcy Online? No.
EvE? No.
Rift? No.
SWG? No.
SWTOR? No.
LotRO? No.
Is Tera? No.

Will
GW2? No.
Secret World? No.
Archage? No.

Is WoW all about end game and only end game? Yes.

See the pattern. I can keep listing games that had or will have focus on more than just rushing to cap but it'll get monotonous.

Basically people, developers create all this content and area and give it so much detail and life between 1 and cap for a reason, so you'll enjoy that as well as what waits for you when you reach cap. If MMOs weren't about the journey they would just give us capped toons from day 1 and just make a game full of raids or endgame whatever, actually we wouldn't even bother having levels.

Now I know someone will pop in here with something witty to say about how the leveling process is how we learn how to play. Sorry but no, MMOs contrary to popular belief are NOT hard in the slightest, there isn't much of a learning curve at all more just like a learning line, a short line much like the short bus than many of these imbeciles rode to school in.

Leveling, early and mid game.,. there's a reason for it. Take off your stupid WoW hats and open your minds to new ideas. WoW is NOT the end all be all authority on what and how and MMO should be, not even close.

Players will have plenty of time to understand the story/lore of Tera through the game itself. . .with alts or from hearing from other players.

However. . .some players love the challenge in a race against others in something like getting to lvl 60. Those who don't read the quest text but still have some interest in it can obviously make new characters to do that with. . .after all you can have 8 characters per server, in case you didn't know. I I personally would've wanted to do the same, but school +work had to be kicking my @$$ with my hours for the past few weeks :c I'm happy to see that there are so many players who take up the challenge for this game.

Other than the obvious opinions as to the lore/stories of this game is over clique or not. . .

SPOILER ALERT: Samuel and Elleon start a yaoi thing. . .and Fraya's Furry results in her getting it on with aa Amani dude that's got some "core" ripped abs ._.

Not that I don't appreciate the story line, its just that on my main, I can't wait to get to the next thing, the next cool zone, the next dungeon, the next awesome weapon. I'm always in a rush to see it all that I often find myself itching to complete the quests and go kill stuff that I don't read them.

I did the same thing in WoW, but I always take my time with alts to really enjoy the leveling experience. I think as far as story goes, what mmo devs really need to do is not stop the story at max level. Release entirely new zones with totally new lore and quest lines that have nothing to do with a raid or a dungeon or anything besides just continuations of story elements or new story elements. These new zones also need to have challenging new content, new BAMs for example, and offer up something as a reward that makes them worth doing as far as your character progression goes.
