Tera: Repetitive and linear?

Before I start, I want to use a quote I saw. I'm not trying to single anyone out as good or bad, so whoever posted it I'm sorry if I offended you or implied you did something wrong- it's just to start my topic:

I played both Vindictus and Dragon Nest. Both were fun for a while, but eventually became horribly repetitive since their basic formula involves running an instanced dungeon ad nauseam in order to complete various quests through a completely linear story.

While what they say is true about these two games (they are fun but it's the same gift in a different package) I'm wondering if Tera would become that. From what I've played so far it's basically killing mobs. Now granted I only made it to level 18, so my knowledge is abysmal! But in the higher levels, wouldn't the game revolve around the same fights and same repetitive gameplay with a boring storyline? Killing the same mobs in the same way, running the dungeons over and over to the point you can memorize every enemy appear in every spot. Boring, predictable story that comes slapped on with every MMO out there. Again, I'm not implying anything I'm just asking. What makes Tera so different from other action MMOs? Why is the gameplay NOT called repetitive and linear?

Oh I have, I love those BAMs. But it seems like everyone was just doing the same thing over and over there. Wouldn't the game get tedious and boring after a while?

Vindictus & Dragon nest went like this

Fun head start > boring > hit 62 all of a sudden tons of bosses are at your disposal, end game is where its at.... Tera may/maynot be like that *shrug* we gotta see.

well it won't get tedious and boring once your healer dies and then the BAM was still at 50% health and everyone was slowly dying with no heals.

At that point its all about survival until the healer resses back and comes back to save your arses.

Edit: Also, some BAMs can still hit you for a lot even if you defend successfully.~

I thought the progression for them were fun, especially DN, I read every single line of dialogue in the game, I kept playing just to see what's going to happen next. Not with TERA though, I just spam click.

Life is repetitive and linear. Tera is not.

i think a major part of mmo's is the world that the company creates for us; gameplay, story, interaction between players in forms of pvp, battlegrounds etc

however there is only so much that they can provide us. basics of a mmo game is kill stuff get exp, do this quest get exp/gear. ruun this instance get exp/ gear / rare gear , endgame raids

what did BH attempt with tera to make it different from other mmo's? mmmm real action combat, BAMS, animation pauses , mobs that somewhat respond to skills u use by strafing , charging, stuff like that. also there will be rifts [ not entirely a new concept but still least they put it in the game lol]

so all in all there are things do to besides just killing mobs. the thing with mmo's is, the experience and the fun you get out of the game is somewhat based on you. party up with people to go kill a world boss thats 5 lvls above u , pull 5 bams with a party of 3 see what happens. there are ways to challenge the game and try to keep it fresh. if the community is great on the server, having pvp events or tournaments. How much you get from a MMO really depends on how much u interact with the world provided and the community..

ill admit running instances over and over gets boring, if that happens tho try different group makeups like 3 man it with no healer :)

we have the freedom to not do things in a set manner, so if a way gets boring and repetative change it up

Every game in existence is like this. Kill stuff, get lewtz. What matters is how you do it.

The combat in Dragon Nest and Vindictus was fun, but had it's flaws. In Dragon Nest, the gameplay was basically like a 3rd person shooter, and it had horrid gamepad support. Vindictus was more an arcarde brawler, you had no healer/tank. You needed to learn to dodge at the right time, or you died. Then of course both were HUB/Instanced based, which isn't all that bad really. No need to worry about Kill stealing or OWPvP drama, tho there are those who like that stuff. But the biggest thing... both are from Nexon.

At Endgame in TERA we have quite a few things to do, and yes, most involves killing stuff, but also keep in mind TERA is still new. It may have been out for awhile in Korea, but the US is a whole different market. TERA may change drastically over the next 3 years.

Game Developers can create the game, but it's up to the player to make it entertaining. After awhile it does get boring, but everything does eventually.
