Aion = Grind Fest
Aion = Boring Combat
Aion = Bad balancing for range vs melee classes

Tera = Not a Grind Fest
Tera = Not boring combat. You are kept on your toes!
Tera = Seems like a well balance (All games have some balance issues, but Aion was and still is rediculous)

Boooooo. Hisssssss! I hate this discussion already, but too tempting!
:)

Graphically and art style-wise, the games appear similar. I'm hoping that's where it stops. I loved Aion, followed it for a long time, and I would possibly still be playing it now if any of my friends had stuck with it. But the grinds, constant ganking, painful crafting RNG, and crappy drop rate drove them all away. Just not the things they were willing to overlook, and I think some of those things probably also drove many other NA players away.

TERA will have PvE servers, so that's a plus. No "contested" areas.
TERA's crafting doesn't seem as hardcore RNG, but I know very little about it.
TERA's loot drop rate on bosses also doesn't seem to be as bad, from what I've read.
TERA's players seem to indicate the leveling isn't nearly as grindy either.

So, I have my fingers crossed. We'll see!

TERA's combat alone beats Aion and all the traditional tab, spam 1,2,3,4 while watching television junk. Aion was honestly not that bad in its leveling pace, until you got towards the last few levels. That's when quest and content just disappeared and the exp needed was GINORMOUS. However, the game was extremely mindless grind driven from crafting to getting anything done, especially towards end game.

Speaking of Aion's horrible RNG, I'm still up in the air about NA version of the enchanting for TERA. If its pretty much like KTERA's I'll hold off on my prolonged subscription. Don't want to waste more hours out of my life on fruitless endeavors.

I tried Aion once and I seriously played it for all of 10 minutes and uninstalled. I felt the graphics was poor especially since It was using such a high end engine and I didn't like the gameplay mechanics, felt like I was about to try WoW all over again. I managed to get my hands on Korean Tera through a friend and this wasn't the case, the world looks alive and I enjoyed the fact that I had to keep on my toes to combat monsters + some quests have an interactive aspect when you go to fight certain mobs. After the first 10 minutes though I decided to force myself to stop because It being in Korean and me not able to understand It was detracting from the immersion; I really didn't want to stop. So after 10 minutes of play of each I think It's fair to say that while both games have their merits and demerits Tera takes the cake with this one.

Also at this point I was a strict fps player. Hated MMOs because they were nothing but tab/click and press buttons yet Tera had me hook, line and sinker. That says alot.

Indeed. One of the things I am personally hoping for, is that TERA attracts players exactly like you - FPS players who shy away from MMOs. I love that this game has potential to bring in so many different types of gamers, and not just MMO players.

I'm wondering about the whole ganking thing too be quite honest, i'm hoping that It clears up but, if we're in a PvP server, can anyone attack us at any time? like just openly start hitting? but if we're in a PvE server will there be no PvP at all, or is it more consentive.
