Tera Questing: Sucks

Aion Questing: Sucks

Aion Combat: old school

Tera Combat: New, its pretty fun

Aion was a bust in america, because there was a huge delay between content patches, since the korean version took months to translate.

Tera could have the same problem, at least we're releasing with the same content as Korea so far, but in the long run, we'll have to see how this goes, and i really hope they push content patches more often than aion, Rift got this pretty much well done.

Pvp in Aion: Zergfest, Gankfest.
Pvp in Tera: Zergfest, Gankfest

Graphics: no need to compare Tera just completely blows Aion away.

Pve in Aion: Boring, takes forever to gear up doing instances, i had 3 55 characters and most of the gear i had was either the pvp gear i got from ganking people, or the pve gear i bought from other people since even if i ran all the dungeons i never got the drops.

Pve in Tera: Average if may say so, the bams are nice, but once you get their patterns it looses their epicness a bit.

Gearing up and leveling is extremely easy, i got 32 in one day with + 6 gold weapons + armors, in aion none of my characters are @ +10 and i've played that since it released.

Tera wins for me, for sure, but i will definitely see how it all evolves, if it ends up being just like aion where content was like every 8 months or so, then ill probably move on to something new, and considering that i predict that ill be lvl 60 in 1 month or so, ill see how this content keeps me occupied.

I downloaded the Aion f2p client other day. I still have my old character from release. I tried making a new one and no matter what I do I just can't make it look good like my old character. I can't even find her face in it and they added a bunch of new ugly faces and skin colors.

Aion was a beautiful game and for the time I played it I loved it, however after Id created enough alts and every day I logged in I did exactly the same thing, it got old. Pre F2P Aion the chat was full of people dribbling crap now its F2P the crap is tenfold and includes prolific advertising by gold sellers and non speaking English players.

Aion has introduced new pets that totally do not fit the graphic style of the game. I have tried to play Aion while Ive been waiting for Tera to fire up but I log in and log out and sit here and youtube and forum troll etc. In other words Aion is no longer the game I loved so any comparison I try to make is going to be biased :D

TERA FTW.......... now gimmeee my lion pls and thxs. (I did ask nicely) :D

I was an Aion governor, and here's my take on why it didn't do so well.

1. System requirements. The game required a much more powerful machine to play on decent settings then WoW did. So there were less possible customers, which goes into my 2nd reason.

2. Fort system. Great idea, poorly done. Due to game's fairly high system requirements and game engine, when too many players were on screen, performance dropped to the point of barely playable. Combined with hitching from characters going in and out of max view distance, on a fort raid with 100's of players in the same spot, many people were unable to really play one of the most important parts of the game smoothly, in turn, unsubbing.

3. Forced PvP. The majority of MMORPG players enjoy PvE games over PvP games. Since Aion didn't have a "PVE Server" option, the game appealed to PvP oriented players, further reducing their possible player base.

4. PvP punishment for being killed. If you died in any way, even ganked by 10+ people, you were stripped of earned points. This made people avoid general pvp, in turn making pvp scarce for people wanted to find it. PvErs felt harassed, and PvPers found the lack of action very boring. Due to the ranking system, it was kind of needed to lose AP (To give other players a chance at climbing ranks) but at the same time, no one likes losing things due to pvp. So the system promoted avoiding pvp or at the very least, staying in large groups so you had a lower chance of dying. (Personally I would have preferred a pvp system where you were rewarded for winning, but not punished for dying, in turn promoting lots of pvp, but I'm not a dev, and I don't know how you could make that work with the Ranking / transformation system.)

5. PvE Gear grind fest. In aion, gear was extremely important for PvP, but getting the gear was extremely hard for the average player. You could go 5 or 6 dungeon runs and only see 1 gold. People felt PvEing was more like a punishment, because you could go dozens of runs and not even get a single gold for yourself. This also caused people to spend the majority of their time hiding in PVE instances, desprately trying to get gear, in turn making PvP even harder to find (Most of the server was either avoiding PvP or spending the bulk of their time doing PVE trying to get gear to be better at PvP lol)

6. PvE level grind-fest (I personally didn't feel it was that bad, but I'm an original 1999 EQ player, so anything seems "fast" to me haha), but I know many people felt leveling up took way too long.

I personally enjoyed the game a lot (obviously). I loved doing fort raids and I thought the transformation idea was pretty cool. Combined with much better graphics and animations when compared to other MMOs at the time, and the RvR system, I really liked the game.

But looking back it's easy to see why it didn't do so well with the general MMO community.

TERA is now educating gamers that action combat = non-target + standing-still combat... Argh...

This is a long post but *takes a deep breath* here we go...

Aion was managed very poorly. That right there ruined the game in itself. People were getting banned for reasons outside of their control (game guard messing up, monthly payment having issues going through, etc.) and for silly reasons like cursing. The game also encouraged people to exploit because for long periods of time there wouldn't be any bans. And when the ban hammer finally came chunks of the population would just disappear. (I'm sure if they banned on a regular basis it would deter people from cheating and believing they could get away with it.) But still many of the exploiters would petition and get their accounts back and pick up where they left off.

Not to mention if someone was caught exploiting and was reported the reportee would be normally told they needed "screenshots". How do you screenshot an exploit? You'd have to fraps it. They shouldn't have even asked for this in the first place. It's their game, they should be able to look into it. But it was apparent that they couldn't, thus further showing their incompetence.

The game itself has no real content outside of dredgion (their only "battleground" which was open to players during set times 3 times a day) and a handful of low level dungeons (oh, and one lvl55 dungeon where you could farm your abyss points at once a day) all accompanied by less-than ideal drop rates. The game was, more or less, a grind fest with a shell of a background story, clunky combat system with buggy terrain that could be exploited in pvp (running into walls, etc). Plus some classes needed some serious looking-over, such as the spirit master and their fear locks, but was never changed.

Enchanting was extremely expensive at endgame and with high fail rates. Their "supplements" that were put in place to help enchanting did little to nothing but bring another money sink into the game.

Rifting became a joke shortly after release. The maps were small as well.

The character creation system was very deep. Too deep, in fact. Because of the level of customization it allowed, rendering characters in populated zones tended to create massive lag for the average computer. Sometimes to the point of being next to unplayable. (Fort raids, anyone?)

And my biggest peeve, their events. Worst events I've ever seen. Their events consisted of grinding repeat event quests for the chance at temporary (1 day only) costumes and random items like low level enchant stones and other vendor trash. Why even bother?

Not to mention the cash shop they were running on the side for things that should have been in-game as with the korean client to start with.

Oh, and the music was either lackluster or just simply horrible.

I wont lie. It was a pretty game (though some areas looked drab). And it had some of the best armor designs I've seen. And though it's character creation was too deep, I still had fun making my own unique characters there. Plus they were timely when it came to item restorations.

Tera on the other hand...
I'm not sure what to expect from Tera and EM/BHS in the future. I do know, so far, that the game is much more beautiful than Aion. It's combat system is much more engaging. It handles large populations well without much lag, and the maps seem fairly large.

I can't judge storyline since I've skipped reading most quests. The character creation isn't as deep as I'd like it to be. The questing is quick, leveling is fast paced at lower levels (can't speak for higher levels), drop rates are good for low level content (once more, cant speak for higher level stuff). And, personally, I enjoy the background music.

I look forward to seeing how this game develops in the future.

Aion is a dumb, imbalanced gear-dependant game. On top of that I spent 100mil trying to enchant my lv55 Tac Officer's Bow and never even got it to +3, an hour later in Chantra Dredgion I got killed by a guy in FULL +15 gear.

Then I quit.
