Tera is a great, refreshing game from the monotonous MMO market. Combat is fun, intuitive, and requires quite a bit more awareness than previous games, and lack of targeting means a player has to strive to hit her target -- or, better yet, targets.
I really do have to applaud the staff who has created this great MMO, and I hope they are pleased that I will be a loyal customer for this game for years to come.
However, there's something that really bothers me. I used to play WoW -- awful game, looking back, but it was more of a habitual logging in that sucked the life out of the game, the constant feeling of boredom and the sheer lack of caring about the game anymore. I know there are people who still enjoy WoW, I get that, and I am happy for you, but I also imagine if you're playing Tera, like me, that you'll either hate or dislike WoW considerably.
Why, then, has Tera taken so many things from WoW? I thought about compiling a list, but I am just going to start mentioning some of the stolen portions of Tera that were WoW concepts:
- Warrior class
- Priest class
- Glyphs
- Titans
- Maelstorm
- Alchemy / Enchanting / etc
- Reputation
- Instances, instances lockouts
- Achievements
- Zones look similar to other zones, such as Mistmoor Island/Jagged Coast compared to Stranglethorn Vale, or Val Aureum compared to Tanaris/Silithus
- Imps
- Kobolds
I could name more but those are just the ones at the top of my head. As I said, I love this this game. I just wish the ideas weren't rehashed from World of Warcraft. I want to get away from that awful game, and this game is the remedy.
EDIT:
I just thought of another thing:
- Level 60 cap
WoW originally made their level cap 60, and I noticed this game seems to be following. I do recognize that it was 58 in Korea, and for that I must say very good... but to make it 60 to fit in with WoW? I don't know how I feel about that.
