Please, only answer if you have played Aion and Tera!

I recently went back to Aion F2P and was suprised at a few things that inevitably caused me to uninstall it swiftly. They never changed the flight timer so it was tedious to do anything in the air. Clunky air controls, clunky movemen, ect... There was also A LOT of traveling on foot. I hate timesink traveling!

-Does Tera have faster traveling than Aion? Or is there a ton of running around on foot for great distances?

Things I loved about Aion! Grinding! And not just killing, the fact that monsters that you were grinding could drop good loot (White, green, blue, orange quality)... I don't like grinding if the monsters you are grinding can't drop rare items to use or sell.

-Does Tera offer a rewarding grinding system? (Read above)

Last question!

-Do you think Tera's engine is more optimized than Aion?

I have a 5770 HD Radeon, 6GB ram, and a quad core intel. Aion seemed to lag at max settings but I can play games like Skyrim just fine.

I played and actually enjoyed AION for what it was.

-No, tera has mounts, and you get them very early on for free. The environments in TERA are just gorgeous, so you won't have any problem traveling around.

-In Tera you can quest all the way to max level. The quests are pretty grindy, but fun because of the combat system

-Tera runs much smoother and looks just as nice

The leveling is much faster than Aion. Moving around is also so much faster....I never understood why characters ran so slow in Aion. Plus you get mounts early on. Oh and in Aion, for some reason, there was a rediculous gap between a lot of targets...enemies are grouped better in Tera.

Yeah, enemies can drop some rare items. You can also sell the stuff you get from them.

I've been playing Aion and that game is FAR from optimized. I've had trouble with it on several occasions. Haven't really had any issues with Tera through the last beta.

Most of these questions can be answered if you wish to try out the open beta coming in a few days.

I'd say Aion has faster traveling vs TERA, but that would be because TERA is open world + gigantic areas.

Grinding in instances can offer some good drops. I don't know about normal mobs though.

I have noticed that my GPU usage on my 6970 was hitting near 100% when I am in TERA. If you want to max your settings in TERA, you may need to upgrade your videocard (maybe the other stuff as well). Memory is fine, CPU 'should' be fine (need exact processor model name).

I think it's important to note that regardless of mounts, one still has to travel a bit over land. This is one of the draws for me but might work against the OP"s decision to purchase.

This. Especially since Open Beta is right on the horizon, there's no reason not to.

You gravitated towards Aion for some reason, and I suspect TERA has a lot of those same reasons, so you should definitely give it a try.

As EchoHerb mentioned, there is no flying/gliding in TERA, instead there are mounts.

And as CaptainSunshine said - the enemies are grouped a bit nicer - in Aion it's mostly fighting 1 mob, and if you have 2 mobs, then the effort for the fight is roughly x2.

In Tera, a lot of the mobs are structure to have a "Leader" which is then surrounded by a bunch of "minions". It makes for more interesting combat, and especially with the "action combat" mechanism, its quite refreshing and fun. AOE has a lot more use in Tera combat since you are regularly fighting swarms of minions, whereas in other MMO's most AOE is just used as a more powerful (hopefully) attack against a single target.

I mean if you like a game with massive tons of RNG and grinding to "be the most skilled" then by all means, keep playing Aion. That's pretty much it.

I mean, Aion did have good atmosphere, and I liked the chain skills a lot. They fixed the grind a little bit in later patches too. But Tera really just takes everything to the next level.
